We rented Dolly for our wedding party. She was absolutely beautiful. John our driver was great, very relaxed and took us wherever we wanted. He even got involved with the photoshoot including helping with the dog! Thankyou so much for everything! Highly recommended!

  2. Nicola and Lee Ruddick Says:

We booked Liberty Campers for our transport to our wedding venue. I believe we travelled in ‘Dylan.’
It was a real treat to travel in the camper van, it’s stunning! The trip to the surprise view was a lovely added bonus. Tracey really looked after us and treated us like royalty! It had been raining but Tracey ensured the van was clean and dry inside so my dress didn’t get dirty. Tracey was also on hand with an umbrella to help me get in and out of the van. We really appreciate everything you did, thank you so much!

Thank you both so much for this lovely review, it was my pleasure to chauffeur you, I can’t wait to see the official photos. Take good care of each other, all the very best Tracey x

Hired Percy for our wedding day and and a couple of nights in the dales for our honeymoon. It was an adventure from start to finish and he put a smile on our face all weekend. Hiring Percy was made very easy with great communication from John & Tracey I would strongly recommend liberty campers.

  4. The Lambert Family Says:

Just took Sky out for 5 nights, it was amazing! We traveled down south, spending every night in a different place. It was fabulous! Thank you so much, Liberty Campers!

  5. Andy Welsh Says:

Thank you for a great mid week break. The T6 was fantastic with everything spot on and nothing for us to worry about other than bringing our clothes etc along. We had a great trip up to Northumberland and the driving was very easy. We had one night without electric hook-up but plenty of charge in the leisure battery meant business more or less as usual.

I think we’ve git the bug now and so will be back for more!

  6. Lucie Myers Says:

    Hi Tracey and John,

Just wanted to say thank you for all your help and advice with regards to our experience with hiring Percy.

The journey from start to finish with Percy was just amazing. What an adventure. We drove up to the lakes which was an amazing drive. What’s ace is how many people wave and beep at you whilst passing through places. We hired Percy to drive all the way up to Gretna Green to get married. Percy served us well, was pretty amusing and amazing getting ready to get married in the camper it added to the fun and experience. We drove all around the Lake District on our return from Gretna, it was just AMAZING, Percy was snug and quirky and met all our needs.
I totally fell in love with Percy the camper and I highly recommend Percy and liberty campers for your camper adventures to everyone.

We will most definitely be hiring a camper again from John and Tracey.

All our love Mr and Mrs Jones xxx

  7. Lorraine Hamilton Says:

I had a fantastic week with Victor. Loved the freedom and the slow pace. It was just what the doctor ordered and I’ll definately be back to do it all again. Thankyou John and Tracy.
    Kind regards

Just had another great holiday in “Victor”, Liberty Campers brand new T6 . This van seems to have a bigger living area, so made it even better to sit in during the day, and at night a large and comfortable bed. There was every thing you needed in the van, as you would expect from John and Tracey, so thanks again and see you next year

  9. Kirsty & Liam Says:

    Thanks John & Tracey,

We hired Betty the blue T6 for a long weekend from the 20th to the 24th April to explore and mountain bike around the Lakes.

The camper was in immaculate condition and spotlessly clean when we picked it up with everything you would need for a trip to the Lake District neatly stowed away in Betty’s many cubbyholes.

Her ability to store all our Mountain bike equipment and provisions whilst still leaving plenty of living space was nothing short of a miracle.

All cutlery, crockery, cleaning supplies, full water tank, full tank of diesel, electrical hook up cable, electric heater and full LPG cylinder were provided along with a guided tour of Betty’s features courtesy of John upon collection.

All we needed to bring along were our sleeping bags, pillows and blanket for the comfortable rock and roll style bed.

For a small premium (£35) we also hired a bike rack which attached to the tow bar and allowed us to securely attach two bikes.

Due to the power management system on board we were able to spend a couple of nights away from a power hook up point which allowed us more freedom of choice on where we parked up for the night.

The engine is a good mix of power and economy with plenty of grunt to tackle the steepest hills in the Lakes without a problem and over the time we had her we used two thirds of the Diesel supplied which was cheap enough to top back up.

All in all it was a fantastic experience and a much preferred way to enjoy a short break than staying in a stuffy B&B.

We have booked again for the end of May for a longer trip to Scotland taking in the mountain bike downhill world cup at Fort William and exploring Torridon with the bikes.
We will be spoilt for choice for a places to park up and enjoy Liberty’s newest addition Skye!

    All the best.

    Kirsty & Liam.

  10. Alistair Mcintosh Says:

We booked a 3 day mid week break at the last minute after being let down at the last minute by another hire company. John and Tracey couldn’t have been more helpful. We hired Betty the blue T6 which was really easy to drive, immaculate and well equipped (even things like a new dishcloth, salt & pepper were provided). I’d recommend Liberty without hesitation and have no doubt I’ll be hiring from them again in the future.

    • Tina Says:

When setting out on the idea of hiring a campervan, I looked at various websites. I’m so pleased we found Liberty Campers. From the start, the service from John was excellent. He explained everything clearly and was a really nice guy. He even changed the hiring times around to suit us.
The process was easy in relation to providing all the documentation he required for insurance.
The location was easy to find when we went to pick the van up and John clearly takes a lot of pride in keeping his vans clean and in good condition. Collection was quick and easy with a demonstration from John of how the van worked and the facilities it had. He was always at the end of the phone if we needed him.
We had a fab 4 day break away in the VW T6.
John was awaiting our return of the van and it was a simple and quick handover.
I’d definitely use Liberty Campers again if I was ever going to hire a campervan and I’ve already been handing out their leaflets.

      Thanks John. Excellent service.

      Tina

We hired Betty for a long weekend in November 2016.
    > Despite the cold and rain we had a fantastic weekend, driving around Yorkshire and the lakes!
    > The T6 was easy to drive and very well equipped.
    > Collecting Betty was a very easy process and John explained everything and stored our car for us. Some good recommendations on the website for camp sites to book locally.
    >
    > We would definitely book with Liberty again and if you fancy trying something different hiring a camper for the weekend is a great experience!

  12. Roy Coote Says:

We’ve just returned from a weekend where we took Betty for a short tour into the Yorkshire Dales around Settle. From first contact with John to booking, picking up and return everything was very easy and relaxed. The van was spotless when we picked it up and everything was like new. Aside from a great weekend break (we saw salmon leaping up the waterfalls of the River Ribble near Langcliffe – go late October for this amazing event) it’s a great way to decide if you want to buy your own campervan – one of the reasons we hired. The whole family (four of us and a small dog) had a great time. I can highly recommend Liberty Campers!

  13. Neil Says:

Just got back from a weekend away in a lovely T6 camper. John at Liberty was helpful, friendly and gave us all the information needed to enjoy our weekend. The van was well equipped and clean and tidy throughout. John even made a special trip to allow us to drop off the van at a time that was convenient for us, would definitely recommend Liberty if you’re thinking of hiring a camper.

  14. Sally Says:

We have just returned from a short break in Liberty T5 camper. We enjoyed a lovely time in the late summer sun, touring the North York moors with our 4 month golden retriever puppy. A great experience, thank you to Liberty campers for a very efficient and easy collection and drop off, and a very well equipped van. Thoroughly recommended. We are now planning to purchase our own van for many such adventures.

  15. H & P Says:

We had our best ever festival experience thanks to the delightful T6 camper hired from Friday-Monday. We found the whole booking process simple and straightforward and our first time use of a camper was a complete pleasure – comfortable, clean, easy to drive and all the equipment you’d need. I had some worries the bed might not be comfy but it was great – plenty of width and a great night’s sleep! All in all a fab first camper trip that has definitely inspired us to save up for our own in the future but in the meantime we’ll be back to Liberty Campers again, I’m sure!

  16. Debbie and Rob Harrison Says:

We hired Betty for a week in Pembrokeshire and had a great time. Perfect for the beach and the kids loved the penthouse! Betty was in immaculate condition on collection with plenty of kitchen items on board. Would highly recommend Liberty Campers. A big thank you to John, it was a pleasure to do business.

We hired Beauty for festival in Devon and I have to say the experience from start to finish with John was very easy and clear.

John couldn’t of been more helpful in the run up to our trip and when we picked up Beauty it was immaculately clean.

Customer service was excellent John so thank you (we’ve hired from others which wasn’t )

We will definitely use Liberty Campers again and am happy to recommend to anyone

    Thank you again

    Happy Campers. 👍😃

  18. Andrew Green Says:

    Good Morning John!

I would like to start by saying thank you for the excellent service and all round experience we had when we hired Berty! Week 33 2016

Berty was in great condition and freshly cleaned which made a great first impression!

I cannot stress enough how enjoyable our week away was and a large part of this was due to the services you provided.

I will without doubt be using Liberty Campers again and would advise anyone who is thinking of going for a break in Berty or the other vans to do it straight away!

Thanks again from the Green Family.

  19. Fiona Foster Says:

We hired beauty for a few days earlier this month, the camper was everything we wanted and needed. John explained how everything worked before we set off and we had no problems with the camper at all. We had the all important kettle, plates, bowls and cutlery all provided and two camping wine glasses that could double up as a bucket! I think John and Tracey saw us coming! We had a fabulous time and would highly recommend Liberty Campers to anyone.
    Thanks John and Tracey.

  20. Susan Porter Says:

We hired ‘Betty’ for an adventure up to Stirling. We had a thoroughly enjoyable time from start to finish.
John made sure that we were well informed about every feature of the camper. The van was clean and spacious and fun to live in and drive.(our dogs lived it too!
    John offers help whenever needed.
Liberty campers ……. A great way to enjoy the outdoors………really efficient, friendly caring business.

  21. Andrew and Katharine Says:

We decided to attend Underneath the Stars near Barnsley and thought that a VW camper was the ideal accommodation for the weekend. We are reasonably local so we dropped in to Liberty Campers to have a look and decided Dougal was the boy for us! Driving him took me back 40 years to when I was learning to drive in a 1968 VW van. The sloppy gears, the big steering wheel and the massive loss of power as soon as the road headed up hill! This was real driving and all at 50mph and less! At the Festival Dougal was a star and made lots of new friends. We found him comfortable to sleep in and easy to convert from day to night mode. Pick up and drop off was pleasant and easy. We are already making plans for next year. If you want a genuine retro experience this is the way to do it! We were delighted with the tableware too. Not saying anymore it would spoil the surprise!

  22. Anna & Kate Says:

A group of three of us hired the Beauty campervan for a festival in the Lake District. All communication up to picking the van up was friendly and clear, John was great and flexible with our timings.
On the day we picked it up John explained everything so we knew exactly how to work the van plus with the addition of the modern tent we hired we couldn’t have asked for better accommodation in a field for the weekend 🙂

I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Liberty Campers to anyone needing a campervan for hire …. After all, who wants to camp!!”

  23. William Keag Says:

Many thanks for all your help and assistance with the hire of Beauty. We appreciated your flexibility to accommodate our travel plans. Beauty was able to comfortably and speedily take us to Bamburgh, Lindisfarne and Cragside and back. For a first experience, the kitchen delivered 1st class eggy bread and home made cheese burgers. Beauty was well kitted out and clean. We look forward to another adventure in her, or one of her friends in the future. Many thanks again William

  24. Ed and Lynne Bromley Says:

Thanks for a great time with Berty T5. He was a fantastic van to drive through the roads in the Yorkshire Dales in July 2016. He is so flexible and the leaflets in the glove box and links to Yorkshire on your website were really helpful. To day we are both Yorkshire born and bred we didn’t realise there were so many places to visit with lovely dog friendly site virtually on our doorstep. Recommended you to our family and friends. Thanks again.

  25. Lynn & D Says:

We took Bertie up to the Whitby area for 5 days. The weather was kind, the site – Serenity Camping – at Hinderwell was superb and Bertie surpassed our expectation. I guess it was a bit of a trial run for us with a T5 and because we enjoyed it so much, we will have to see if we can get one of our own. John was very helpful throughout and we had a wonderful but short time away in our T5. We would thoroughly recommend John and Liberty Campers if you or your friends fancy a bit of an adventure away in a camper!

    Lynn & D

  26. Phil Bishop Says:

” we’ve enjoyed a great weekend up at Runswick Bay. Our T6 Camper Van, nicknamed ‘Erdbeer’ by the kids because it’s Red and German, provided an excellent and comfortable home.
Thanks to John and to Tracey for their help.”

  27. Sharon & Darren Powell Says:

WE hired Beauty for a trip to IOW festival, first time in a campervan and what a brilliant time we had.
The van is compact and perfectly formed just what we needed for a long weekend. The van drives beautifully and has everything we needed.
John was great and very accommodating in organising the hire, friendly and helpful.
    Thank you John & Tracey.

  28. Heather and Dave Says:

We have just returned from a week in the Lakes in Betty the T6 campervan. We had a fantastic week, the van had everything we needed and was finished to a high standard. We stopped on 3 different sites and had great weather which was a bonus.

John was extremely professional from the first contact we had and made the hire and arrangements easy and stress free. We would not hesitate to recommend Liberty Campers to others, and will be definitely hiring again.

  29. H Says:

We have just returned from a week in Betty V6 campervan, we had a fantastic week, the van had everything we needed, plenty of storage and finished to a high standard.

John was extremely professional from the first contact we had and made the whole experience enjoyable and stress free.

We would have no hesitation in recommending Betty and Liberty Campers to other, and will certainly been doing this again

  30. alan meloy Says:

Wow, just back yesterday from a week in Northumberland in ‘Betty’ the brand new blue T6. Brilliant van, drives even better than the T5’s, Even the weather co-operated. Stayed at South Meadows park near Belford, which we would recommenced.

Back soon for another hire we think….

  31. Jo & Phil Bourne Says:

From our first contact with John we were given fantastic service, we found him really helpful in recommending places to stay and on the day we picked up our van he was very thorough in explaining to two novices how everything worked.
The van was fabulous and had everything we needed for three nights in the Dales. We will definitely be booking again especially if John can arrange for the sun to shine like it did last weekend !!

    Cheers
    Jo

  32. Liz Graham Says:

Just back from a week on the road with brand new Betty (T6). Had a brilliant time, and Betty had excellent facilities – just cooking dinner in the van was fun, as was that cup of coffee looking out from the van over the beach in the morning sunshine 🙂 Most depressed to be home – we’ll need to think about regular VW therapy!
John was really helpful – the very thorough and clear explanation of all van functions (we were complete novices) set us up for a week of trouble-free, happy campervan-ing.

  33. James Says:

Fantastic long weekend touring the Lake District in Beauty with 2 kids under 2 (toddler & a 6 month old)! The weather through everything at us – beautiful sunshine, hail, snow, -3 tempretures overnight and enough sun the next day to get a tan!

The van was excellent and our toddler loved it, sleeping upstairs one of the nigths and downstairs another – it was definetly adventure for him. The van enabled us to cover a lot of ground and we could really “go anywhere”, we managed to get to Wasdale, Keswick, Borrowdale and the Yorkshire Dales all in one weekend which with two kids is amazing! Beauty gave us a lot of driving confidence as she has sufficient power, is not too heavy for a camper and handles well – like driving a car we thought.

Internally the van had everything we needed, having a heater (via elec hook up) on Saturday night was a must with the tempretures so low. Kitchen well equipped and generally well laid out meant we could have some good meals in the van with views that you wouldnt be able to find in any restaurant.

Would definetly use again, if we dont buy one first! 🙂

In terms of the service, easy pick up and drop off. Van was in perfect condition – it looked like new on pick up. John gave me a quick tour of the van and was friendly and good to chat with before we set off on our weekend experiment with two little ones in a van. Thanks!

  34. Carlo Harrison Says:

Black Beauty was just that. Perfect for our needs, we have two Springer Spaniels and needed a safe and roomy way to take them on holiday and then, once at the cottage near to Sandsend to be able to transport them and us about throught the day. Monday to Friday and used £26 in Diesel.
As soon as we choose our October destination I will be straight back on the phone to rebook.

  35. Clare & Robert Hampshire Says:

We have just returned Berty after having him for 5 days touring North Yorkshire and Northumberland. Absolutely loved the experience which says a lot about the camper as the weather wasn’t great (one of the campsites was like The Somme!). Berty did a brilliant job of ferrying our 2 children and ourselves around and was a pleasure to drive, the gearbox being perfectly spaced for power in the lower gears and effortless cruising in fifth. We travelled over 460 miles and only used £65 of diesel – very economical for its size. John was extremely helpful and accommodating to our needs answering any questions prior to our holiday – a really nice person with a genuine passion for campers. John and Tracey are clearly experienced in this field (no pun intended) – Berty was immaculate and well stocked with utensils and cookware all of which looked new and came complete with other essentials such as an electric heater, kettle and even a bottle of washing up liquid. Really well thought out and it was obvious that care was taken to ensure everything was as it should be. If you’re considering hiring one from Liberty, do it, a brilliant introduction to campers.

  36. Kirsty Searle Says:

    Hi John,
Just a quick email to ‘thankyou’ once again for the fantastic time we had in ‘Dougal’. Pick-up was easy & straightforward, however, the transition from modern car to a 1970’s vehicle was a strange concept but John explained it well & made me feel at ease to drive. Help was at hand if we needed it & thankfully we didnUt!

Van was kitted out with all the necessary equipment, even a whistling kettle (a must whilst in the van!) Plates, bowls, cutlery etc. Even washing up liquid, cloth & tea towel so donUt worry about packing thoseI Fan heater was also provided which was required in the evening as the weather cooled down.

We had great weather for our week with Dougal & received lots of ‘flashes & greetings’ from fellow campervan travellers.
We had fun driving ‘Dougal’ & enjoyed the concept of being TfreeU to roam & explore.

If you have an opportunity, give it a go!
    Thanks again John!

  37. Carole H Says:

Just back from a weekend in Percy – had so much fun and great experience – went to Kielder Water in Northumberland and Ingleton via the scenic routes. Driving around in Percy was so fun, reminding us of what cars used to be like – the smile on my partner’s face when driving was worth every penny. Neither of us had driven a campervan before or stayed in one but everything we needed was in the van and it was in great condition. Even the dog enjoyed it sitting between our seats. Excellent service from John and Tracey and great communications whilst booking.

  38. Alyson Winter Says:

2My husband, 14 year old daughter and spaniel and I were lucky to spend two nights in Beauty over the August Bank Holiday. Booking and picking up was straight forward and the van was well kept and equipped. My daughter loved the VW camper crockery! It was my first go at driving a VW T5 but we got along fine and had a nice trip and stay at Settle. Everything in Beauty was easy to use, we didn’t lack for any home comforts, slept well and it was great to relax at the camp site with wine and a great view of the Dales. Tracey and John were very friendly and helpful with our questions for Beauty and about buying a van. Our trip only encouraged us in this aim. Would definitely recommend Liberty Campers.”

  39. John Boulton Says:

Wow what a week we ve just had ! A gift of Dougal for a week after my wife’s recent retirement , this was a totally new experience for us but one we certainly want to repeat. From the initial meeting with John (who could not have been more helpful) to arrange our week and suggest caravan sites we enjoyed every moment. Dougal managed to get us to Robin Hoods Bay and back via The Vale of Pickering and Howgill Lodge with no difficulties finding great places to eat and drink ( once parked up !) on the way. Dougal made the driving a lot easier than I had anticipated and the evenings “as snug as a bug”. Many , many thanks John , you have a unique business !

  40. Julie and Stuart Benson Says:

Just back from a fab few days in Northumberland in Beauty!! (The black T5).
Last year we took Liberty(the red T5) to Cornwall .
This time it was a bit drizzly but just as much fun in the T5 !!
As always John was fab to deal with ….always really helpful and easy going .
I just love driving the T5’s …and the freedm
om to just go anyway is ace!we found some fab beaches and little villages.
Liberty campers are always my first recommendation to anyone asking me about a campervan holiday .

We’ve just returned Beauty from a weekend in the north Lakes. It’s the first time we’ve tried a camper van holiday and it was brilliant. The van was as easy as a car to drive and manoeuvre, the internal spec was excellent and everything really simple to use. If you’ve looking to try something different for a weekend break with the family then we’d really recommend it. John @ Liberty couldn’t have been more helpful and accommodating – we booked Beauty just 6 days before we took her out for the weekend.

    Highly recommended.

  45. Margaret Says:

Very much enjoyed our 4 days with Dougal visiting the Yorkshire Dales and Filey. We previously enjoyed a holiday in Berty, a T5 which was great to drive, and so we were a little nervous about driving a much quirkier retro camper. However we quickly got the hang of its idiosyncrasies and found that driving Dougal was not a problem.
It was my teenage daughter who was keen to try out a retro camper this time and Dougal did not disappoint. She managed to sleep ok in the roof space and we thought that the interior was surprisingly spacious, especially as the weather wasn’t great so we spent a lot of time inside. It was also very well set out, so packing away before moving to the next destination didn’t take long at all.

Thank you to John for trusting us with one of his lovely vans again, and for being so helpful and efficient in the organisation of our holiday.

  46. Dan, Rich n Susie Says:

2 friends and I just returned Liberty (Red T5) from a weekend of fun and thankfully not much mud at Leeds Festival.

We’ve hired a few campers over the last few years but none have been as easy to drive or operate than Liberty. My friend who drove commented on the very smooth driving at all speeds – on smaller roads, on the motorway (no judder) or driving over the field to our pitch.

John has been helpful and communicative throughout from my initial enquiry through to pick up and return.

The red paint with dark tinted windows looks pretty cool, the beds are a doddle to put up and down when you’re tired from a day of partying and there’s a good amount of storage for weekend beverages and nibbles.

Great time had by all, look forward to hiring again in future. Cheers!

Had a great week in “Percy”, up to the Lakes with no issues at all.
Good driving experience and at a great pace, stopping as we wanted for a brew and to enjoy the comforts.
More than we expected regards facilities and comfort, will be booking again next year and hopefully travelling further and enjoying the UK in a lovely vehicle.
Service was excellent with good communication and instruction when we picked up “Percy”.
    Thanks Richard and Karey..

Thankyou John, just a note for your website.

We have just returned from a short holiday to Filey with our 4 year old granddaughter under the watchful eye of Dougal.
We all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, cruising along, no fear of being caught for speeding.
Relaxing, fun, a step back in time and Dougal was spotlessly clean, well equipped and well maintained.
Dougal made everyone smile 😊 and the sun shone.

We hired Dougal. He was able to look after mum, dad and 2 kids aged 6 and 4, plus the dog, and made camping much better experience compared to using a tent. The kids loved the weekend their favourite part was the sleeping arrangements, they could not wait to get into the roof space and go to bed! Dougal looks great and gets lots of comments and looks from passers by. We got lots of cars and vans flashing at us as we drove past and the paint job got lots of people talking about Dougal where ever we went. We got loads of great photos for the family album and its noticeable that fun was had by all. John was so knowlagable and put us to ease as soon as we arrived at Liberty Campers, he made sure we had everything we needed and was very accommodating with our requests. We will recommend to our friends and we hope to use Liberty Campers again!

  51. Chris Says:

We hired Bertie for a 5 day tour, amazing experience, well equipped easy to drive and economical. Would recommend everyone to give it a try, excellent service too.

  52. Lucas and Rachael Says:

A lovely weekend in the Lakes with Liberty, our two boys and two dogs! (The awning came in very useful…) The camper was a joy to drive, easy to set up and clear away and a great fun experience for all the family. Thank you.

Just returned from a great weekend adventure with Percy.
We certainly put him through his paces to get across the Yorkshire Dales but he is an absolute trooper & certainly made us & other traffic smile.
If you fancy a weekend with a difference he certainly fits the bill.
Many thanks John for your assurance & guidance on our first adventure, we will be in touch when ready for our next one !

  54. Kirsty Fannon Says:

We hired Berty T5 Campervan for Beatherder festival 2015 as this year we felt we would like more luxury than a tent! The campervan was amazing, all the facilities you need (running water, leisure battery, gas cooker etc) and most of all the comfy double bed. The sound system was brilliant also which got us in the mood for the festival and the storage in the campervan was excellent too.The service from John at Liberty Campers was brilliant, couldn’t thank him anymore for all the help and information he gave us. If in the future we need to hire a campervan again, we will certainly be hiring from Liberty Campers again!

Thankyou so much, Kirsty and Danny

  55. Lou & Linz Says:

Last weekend we took Daisy to Glastonbury Festival and what an experience! Daisy was perfect.. We usually do festivals in a tent, but the campervan was so much better – we were so snug and comfortable, and it was fantastic to have hot & cold drinks, music, and the ability to charge our phones. Even though there were thousands of vans on the fields of Glasto, loads of people told us Daisy was the coolest thing there!
John was very friendly and helpful, and really made us feel at ease with looking after Daisy. It definitely won’t be the last campervan holiday for us 🙂

  56. Adam Tomlinson. Says:

Amazing service and Bertie the camper was perfect for my trip to silverstone for the British GP.
John was brilliant and I would
Not hesitate to use Liberty campers again.
    Thank you very much
    Adam.

  57. Ben Sutton Says:

Liberty Campers is a fantastic setup, providing friendly guidance and support on VW rentals. I would recommend John and Tracey to everyone and will hopefully be renting a classic campervan again, in the not too distant future! ps. Dougal is the best…. 🙂

  58. Heather Smith Says:

We’re just back from 2 weeks on the Isle of Skye in T5 Beauty. We’re campers, but this was our first campervan experience. And we loved it! The van was perfectly fitted out, enough space for our needs, very easy to live in. We soon got used to driving it and was no more difficult than a car, but with a better view! Perfect for a touring holiday, taking no more than 5 minutes to pack up and be ready to move on. The weather was predictably varied (!) on Skye, but again, then van was snug and warm to come back to, after a day on the hills.
This was a very trouble-free holiday and we did not want it to end. John and Tracey run a great business. From first booking enquiry, all went very smoothly. Thank you!

  59. davidbowmanleeds Says:

We had a great weekend away in Liberty T5 at the end of May. Hiring a camper is something we have often talked about doing, but never done until now! It was great fun and a good alternative to camping at this time of year. Easy to drive on our long journey down to the Cotswolds, and easy to get set up on the campsite.
John explained everything so well before we set off. Really great service, thank you!

  60. Paul and Julie Says:

We hired Percy for the weekend, my wife having wanted a vw camper for years and as I nearly bought one in 1984 (when they sold for hundreds not thousands), I thought it would be a bit of a laugh, but small and cramped. I was very pleasantly surprised and we had a great time. Ideal for just tootling around, visiting places and things we never normally get time to do.

If you want to stay fairly local, I recommend a visit to How Stean Gorge at Lofthouse near Pateley Bridge and call in at the top of Greenhow Hill to see the Coldstones Cut. This is free, very impressive, fantastic views of the working quarry and on a clear day you can see for miles.

Percy is the air cooled variety, but with a great cab heater, he really is cosy at night, the bed was far more comfortable than it looks.

If I don’t buy a T2 (which is way out of my budget!) we will be definitely having another go, maybe for a week with a longer tour in mind.

  61. Liz Worley Says:

We have just returned from a wonderful family camping trip in Dougal! The kids (and us!) absolutely loved having him with us!
Such a cool treat for us all and the extra touches with campervan themed crockery made it feel all the more special! 😊
The service received was also wonderful!
    Thanks again John and Tracey!
Already saving for our next one!..😉😃

  62. Paul Shaw Says:

We hired a Daisy for a long weekend. We were on a mission to Buxton in the Peak District going for a wedding. In actual fact it was a double booking but worked out really well. Particularly when I worked out a route that kept us on nice country roads in the main.
In my mind this was going to be a one off rental. A kind of bucket list sort of thing. However I would recommend this sort of road trip / holiday / curiosity trail / friend making machine to all and sundry and I am seriously considering another trip.
John was great in the communications and making me feel comfortable with Daisy and her nuances. (as all older design vehicles are). I enjoy driving and this was a good experience. Other road users were very forgiving as they succumbed to Daisy’s charms.
We slept in Daisy for 2 of the 3 nights and were amazed how much spaces there was to be quite honest. (A bit cool in early April if your arms ventured out from under the quilt..But this is the UK 🙂
Finally she was better on fuel than I expected which was a nice bonus.

  63. Emma Comber Says:

    Thank you Liberty Campers!!

We hired Dylan for our wedding in October and the service really couldn’t have been any better, the price was pretty good too compared to some of the other companies I looked at. As I said to Tracey on the day we chose most of our vendors based on the people offering the service and we absolutely got it right with Tracey. She was fabulous, helping me sort out my dress and generally being lovely to all my family and friends, most of whom commented on how lovely Tracey was and all of whom commented on how fabulous Dylan was!

We needed a bespoke service as our wedding day timeline was a little unusual and this was no problem for Liberty Campers even with changes made at a late stage in the proceedings. I really couldn’t have asked for anything more and would recommend them to anybody. Tracey and John should be exceptionally proud of the service they provide, they help to make that special day just that extra bit special. If we needed anything similar in the future I would definitely book again (can I get away with it for a christening?)

  64. libertycampers Says:

Well that’s just about the end of our busiest year to date! Many thanks to all our holiday adventurers and also the fantastic weddings we have taken part in with Dylan!
Looking forward to next season and meeting more lovely camper lovers!

  65. Joanne Fox Says:

I would like to thank John and his amazing fleet of beautiful VW campervans.

When I arrived at the yard to collect Percy for my trip to the North York Moors to celebrate my 30th birthday with a friend I was amazed at the collection of beautiful vehicles.

Whilst collecting Percy I was already deciding which van I would like to use next time.

My friend and I had a great time travelling in Percy, we had everything we needed and more and I cannot ask for a better service than what I received from Liberty Campers.

Stress free, easy and enjoyable process from first enquiring to returning Percy to the yard at the end of our trip.

The trip I took in July was one of the best trips I have made – simply because of my transport.
To drive Percy through the streets and to see heads turn then to arrive at a campsite to be swamped by questions of Percys home and details of owner was just something else.

The trip was a trip I had promised myself I would do before turning 30, turned out I did it with one of my best friends on my birthday, celebrating hers too, we had the best time and I would most certainly recommend Liberty Campers to anyone who is in search for a vintage, retro, different and fun trip.

    Mrs Fox

    Joanne Fox

  66. Beth & Dan Says:

We hired Dylan for our wedding transportation in September. The service in the run up to the wedding was fab. On the day I got a phone call from my almost husband to say that Dylan was super poorly and would not be able to attend but instead we were to be travelling in Daisy instead. On arrival Tracey could not have been more apologetic, but she needn’t have been as Daisy was beautiful! We were so happy with her.
Tracey throughout the day was discreet but super helpful, especially with the brollies!
The guests loved her as did we and such a reasonable price. Will have to look at booking a holiday.
    🙂

  67. Tom Fisher Says:

We have just got back from a week away on the East coast, taking Daisy.
From the first contact I made with John, it was a pleasure to deal with Liberty Campers. Nothing was too much and nothing was an obstacle.
When last Monday arrived, myself and my wife turned up to pickup Daisy to start the adventure. The welcome we got was friendly and everything was covered by John before we left.
Daisy was spotless and clean, with everything we needed.
Driving her was a pleasure and an experience and once we got use to her it was an experience we will never forget.
We spent the week around Whitby, Scarborough and Robin Hoods Bay before returning her. The views were perfect and complimented by Daisy. Waving to other T1 and T2 owners became the norm and the number of people who looked on in envy happened every town we stopped in.
The camper was everything we needed and more.Cooked breakfasts in the morning were the best start to the day and having a beer looking at the views and watching the sunsets were the perfect end to each day.

I would recommend John and Liberty Campers to anyone wanting to experience either the older T2 or newer T5 experience, if you want a seamless and hassle free experience.

PS. Check out the Liberty Campers Facebook page for some of our photos (I’ll be uploading them soon).

  68. Andy Ostcliffe Says:

    Dear John and Tracy
Thank you for an amazing adventure.
Its tough choosing a holiday to take two teenage daughters on, where you can keep them occupied and involved throughout the holiday. Not to mention ….. the cost that the tour operators want to charge for 10x days in Ibiza – £4000 ?????? really ….? (Summer School Holiday Monopoly Pricing……)
Percy was our mode of transport for 10 days and a return trip from Yorkshire to Cornwall. With my two teenage daughters aboard, our adventure begun.
John was incredibly helpful and with lots of advice our long journey began just as ex hurricane Bertha made it ashore on the West Coast.
We reached our destination and set up camp just a few miles away from Lands End. Using the camp site as a base we toured the West Coast and can honestly say that Percy’s performance was perfect.
At each location, St Ives, Penzance, Lands End and Torquay the cameras were out snapping us travelling down the streets – we felt like movie stars!!!
Waving at other fellow T1 and T2 campers along the way (I soon found out from my daughter who is a bit of a VW fan) that the T1 and T2 translates to the model of the camper!!
I was completely over whelmed with the people who would just come up to us and ask if they could have there picture taken in front of the bus and even start asking us questions about Percy.
In terms of our time on the camp site – the set up and hook up’s were easy, a little refrigerator gave us just enough room to stock the basic supplies ready for a full english breakfast in the morning.
The girls and I had a fantastic time and will definatly be back again for more adventures next season.
I would recommend John and Tracy and their business they have. Its attention detail and lots of help and advice if you need it.
Thanks again John for all your help Andy

  69. Alan & Lin Finch Says:

We have just returned from a wonderful weekend in the company of Percy! Our route took us through Masham, Leyburn, Dent, Ingleton, Skipton and Bolton Abbey. We lost count at the number people who waved as we chugged past! Percy was great fun, both to drive and camp in. There is a surprising amount of room inside and the bed is quite comfortable.
John keeps his “Fleet” of campers in very good condition, Percy was spotless!
If you want an unusual way to enjoy some wonderful scenery, we would definitely recommend hiring one of Liberty Campers VW’s.

  70. Sarah Says:

We took Dougal to Flamborough and Staithes for four nights 18th to 22nd of August 2014. It was fabulous! We had such a fun time. An experience to drive and to live in. Thank you John for providing a beautiful and fully equipped campervan. My family had a VW campervan very similar to Dougal when we were growing up in the 70s. It was our main car. 3 children and 2 adults went on many a holiday in it. So it was great to experience this again as an adult but this time just two of us! We will pass on the word to our friends and recommend Liberty Campers to anyone wanting to hire one.

  71. Richard john Says:

We hired Berty for a 3 day festival after a bad camping experience
Tracy and John were amazing in there coorispondence from
Start to finish, and the camper we hired was fantastic and had everything
You could need. Until next year all we can say is thank you and
See you same time in 2015

  72. Rachael Willmot Says:

What can we say an amazing day made even more special by the company of Dylan and Daisy. They suited our day perfectly and everyone fell in love!
Thankyou to Tracey & John for everything the care and attention they put into our day will forever be admired. Recommend them to anyone who wants their wedding day to be that extra bit special.

    Thankyou to you both

    Rachael & Chris

  73. Alison Lawson Says:

On the first of August we hired Berty to explore Wharfedale, as a celebration of our wedding anniversary – miraculously we have survived 22 years! Neither of us have ever travelled in a campervan before. Berty was the perfect introduction.

Berty is smooth and sophisticated. Like all the vans, he was in immaculate condition, and just the right size for us. He will slide into a parking bay quite easily and yet is fully equipped and was perfect for our requirements. Think we will never view camping with the same enthusiasm again after the campervan experience – it was freedom and security all at once – a powerful combination.

Thank you to John and Tracey for your superb business, which has created fantasies in me of owning a campervan – well, we all need our dreams …

We would love to come back again and would not hesitate to recommend you to others.

    Alison and John Lawson

  74. Vikki Thompson Says:

We hired Dougal last week for our first wedding anniversary, it was brilliant!! John as very thorough when explaining the camper and how things worked and most importantly how to drive it! It was daunting at first but as soon as we drove out of Ilkley I’d got the hang of it and I loved it! I’m pretty sure I’m meant to drive a camper!! The camper was very clean and drove lovely, slow and steady win the race yeah, although it had more power than I thought it would, we came across some pretty steep hills but it didn’t have a problem getting up them. We absolutely loved the camper experience and are certainly going to hire from libertys again:-).

Just returned from a trip to the Commonwealth Games in Brian. We had a fantastic time. Would highly recommend a trip in a camper. Our two girls were with us and loved sleeping up top. The camper was surprisingly comfortable. Be prepared for a trip in the slow lane. If your not in a rush, and we were not, then you’ll love the change in pace. Our girls can’t wait until we hire one again.

We so enjoyed the company of Dougal last weekend. It was a first for us in many different ways – first time in a camper / camping as a family, first time at a music festival for our soon to be 4 year old twins and first time driving a “traditional” 1970s style camper for my partner. It was perfect for the little ones who thorougly enjoyed sleeping in the roof! They had such a lovely time that they gave Dougal a big hug before we had to reluctantly give him back. I would definitely recommend Liberty Campers – the camper was in very good condition and John was very helpful throughout. Just waiting for the festival dates for next year and hoping we can be reunited with Dougal or one of his friends for another adventure. This is the stuff memories of made of. Thanks Liberty Campers!

We have just returned after an amazing weekend in Daisy! We were invited to a wedding at a farm in Derbyshire and didn’t fancy camping so decided to try a campervan for the first time. We found Daisy to be great fun and she certainly caused a stir wherever we went and especially at the wedding! It was comfy and spacious enough for the two of us. The driving was enjoyable once we got used to the gears and lack of power steering. All contact with John was very efficient and Daisy had everything we needed. We were very sad to hand her back on Monday morning and will definitely be hiring from Liberty Campers again.

We have just returned Berty from a long weekend, and what fun we had! Marvelous van from both the “front seat” perspective and the “rear” seat perspective (6 and 8 year old) Really easy to drive and use, very pleasantly surprised that everything was already in the van i.e. crockery cutlery, dust pan and brush, extremely handy with two young children. Collection and return was extremely flexible. Would I recommend? Yes definitely, and we will definitely use Liberty Campers again!

  79. tristan and lucy morris Says:

Dylan and Tracey made our special day even more memorable. Relaxed and comfortable and a nice escape on a day where our feet barely touched the ground. Thank you so much Tracey for getting us far from rhe madding crowd and thankyou Dylan for keeping us safe and sound. Truly amazing and wonderdul and very retro. Limos are pompous and horses smell bad… unique experience and one we will look back on in the many years to come… long live Dylan… hope to meet you again someday!

  80. Emma & Thomas Says:

We hired Dylan for our wedding on the 7th June 2014! The service we received was amazing from getting us to our venue to keeping us dry! Tracey was amazing on the day kept us dry with umbrellas when we were getting our pictures taken and was there when you needed her! As for Dylan he really stood out on the day and everyone commented on how brilliant and different the camper van was, and was in immaculate condition! I would 100% recommend these camper vans for any occasion and Thankyou so much for making our day so special! We will deffo have to book a little camper van holiday in the future too! 🙂

  81. Nic Butcher Says:

Hired Berty for 2 nights – to travel up to Morland in Cumbria, for a friends wedding. Was a fantastic solution – to be able to stay at the venue and have our own space too. No worries about finding rural taxis and we could come and go throughout the day as we wished (ditch the impractical shoes, to get comfier later in the day).

The Van was perfect for space, storage and had everything we needed in it! Black out curtains worked well so no early morning wake ups from the sun!

Generally perfect. Lovely to drive and very much admired whilst we were there! Would definitely recommend and would love to hire again for similar days away.

    Thanks loads John & Tracey!

We had a fantastic weekend camping and I would recommend using liberty campers to anyone as I will defiantly be using there services again, thanks John

  83. Sophie & Gail Says:

We hired Berty for a 3 day coastal adventure! As usual the service from John and Tracey at Liberty Campers was faultless. Berty was easy to drive, you felt like you were driving a car rather than a van!! There was masses of storage and the captains passenger seats made evenings in the van more sociable. Berty travelled up to Bempton cliffs, over to Robin Hoods Bat and then across to near Ripon on his adventures. We will definitely be wanting another adventure in one of the vans soon!!
    Thanks again,
    Sophie & Gail xx

  84. Jamie, smiddy and Luke Says:

Just come back from a week with Berty travelling 1500 miles around Scotland.
Well what a pleasure, drove like a dream, got over 40 miles to gallon !!!!!
From the first minute we went to look at, the service was top class. Not just after your money, but giving you valuable advice.
Keep you in contact from start to finish. Berty was ready earlier and was accordingly advised. Easy hand over, showing you around the van and how to use.
Anyone could drive it, done out beautifully and easily fit us three big lads.

Only down point was handing it back !!!!!

    Would recommend to anyone !!!!!!

  85. petergrimsdale Says:

We had a wonderful three days in Daisy, booked last minute after my daughter’s school trip to Italy got cancelled. This more than made up for it. We were met off the train at Ilkley and within minutes we were out in fantastic Yorkshire countryside. The VW was very popular with my daughter and drew several admirers along the way. Everything we needed was on board and it was fun to drive with a wonderful panoramic view of the dales from the driving seat. At the end we were dropped back at the station – all of which made for a brilliantly hassle free trip. Highly recommended.

  86. Craig Says:

Thanks John and Tracey for your most excellent customer service. We hired Dougal for 3 nights and we all fell in love with him! Just wanted to pass my thanks on to John after a great weekend in Daisy. My daughter (15) has been obsessed with VW campervans for a couple of years and it’s fair to say that after the weekend she is totally hooked. Despite the weather (heavy showers) Daisy was cosy, dry and surprisingly spacious. If you are thinking of trying a campervan I’d definitely recommend using liberty.

  88. Nicola Says:

Just returned from a fabulous five days of fun extravaganza in Percy!! Very handsome in his racing green suit with professionally decorated exterior. Percy looked dandy on the inside too with all unit finished to a very high standard. Although less storage space than we are used to and with 3 adults and an English Springer to cram in we managed just fine m&d enjoyed driving through the lakes up hill and down dale Percy took all in his stride and have us a real treat of a holiday. Could have done with a bigger fridge but no other complaints. Fab holibobs thank you Percy!! See you again soon!

  89. jill nagle Says:

I have fallen in LOVE! My husband and I have just spent one of our best weekends ever in Percy. The trip was a surprise for Shaun’s 50th birthday and boy was he surprised to find he would be driving a VW campervan full of flowers ( he is a hard core HGV driver) but he enjoyed every minute.
We took Percy to Camperfest in Chester and then over to Hebden Bridge for a rest! Percy drove like a dream along the motorway and managed the twisty country roads. We slept like logs in the spacious rock n roll bed and had plenty of room to make breakfast which we ate outside in the sun. The joy of a VW campervan is that you sit outside and so meet so many lovely people,Percy was a talking point!
I have definatly got the ‘bug’ and so will hopefully call on John again ( he is such an accomodating man) to borrow another van over the summer. If you are a Virgin Camper, as we were, I say go have some fun I’m sure you won’t forget it!
    Thank you Percy and John
    love Jill and Shaun

  90. Brian Murray Says:

We’ve just come back from the Lake District, hiring Percy for the trip. What a fantastic experience, and Percy never missed a beat despite miles of up and down and winding roads. I couldn’t stop grinning and had a very hard time handing Percy back to John.

Percy had everything we needed for our trip and was immaculate inside and out. John was very helpful and friendly and we couldn’t ask for more. This was a 50th birthday treat for me and I can’t think of a better treat than driving Percy, a vehicle nearly as old as me. Fantastic!

  91. Jude Says:

Thanks John for a fantastic few days away in Liberty! She drove like a dream, and was really well-stocked – even washing-up liquid! John you have thought of everything. And so many cupboards and storage cubby-holes for us to stash stuff away. We loved how quickly she became warm and toasty inside in the evenings, and our two children thought the bunk was fantastic. They went to sleep the earliest we’ve ever known!
We got lots of waves from other camper-van drivers as we glided over the Welsh mountain passes, and it was great being able to pull up, unload the bikes, change in the van and go.
It was a real wrench having to say good-bye to her!

  92. Alan Meloy Says:

Just back from a great week in ‘Berty’ the new T5, up to the Moray Firth and back. First trip in a camper for forty years, so lots to learn and a bit of nervousness about whether we would be able to cope with a week in confines space – just needed the weather to co-operate.

Picked up the spotless Van, and loads of sound advice from John, and we were on our way. An easy first day up to Annan near Gretna, then a long slog up the Moray Firth, four days of chilling followed by a lazy two day trip back down to Ilkley.

The modern T5’s drive like a family car, with a brilliant driving position, and loads of room. Soon got into the idea of pull up, gas on, roof up and get the kettle on!

Saw loads of sights, two bottle nosed dolphins, first Swallow of the year, and even a battered pizza…

The weather caught up with us on the way back, and our only sticky moment was when we had to be towed off our pitch in Harrogate which had turned to treacle overnight.

Still talking and having a laugh after a week, so cant wait to do it again – might borrow the shiny red one next time, many thanks John and Tracey for your top service.

    Alan and Anita

  93. Kath & Andy. Says:

We have just returned ‘Liberty’ after a fantastic short break of 5 sunshine filled days. We didn’t go far, just to the Lakes then across to York, but all the other camper people on the sites were friendly and helpful, as were John and Tracey when dealing with our booking and waving us off. It has opened up a whole new world to us and we are truly besotted. Thank you Liberty Campers, we will recommend you to all our friends, family etc.

  94. Nick Fountain Says:

My girlfriend got me a surprise camper trip for Christmas and the time finally came last week! We had such a great time in Daisy and she was an absolute pleasure to drive.

John was great and made sure we knew what we were doing; he gave us a decent tour of the van and told us what we needed to do. By the time he had finished, we were happy in our ability to drive away and Daisy got us to Cumbria with no trouble at all.

Inside, she’s really well equipped and has everything you need. The pop-up roof gives even a tall person the ability to stand up straight and the bed is deceptively big.

Even in February, we were able to stay warm by using the heater and the van kept a lot of heat in.

We genuinely had such a lovely time and it was a real pleasure to deal with John and Liberty Campers.

We have just returned Daisy after a long weekend with her, doing day trips from home near Castle Howard out to the coast. She was a brilliant surprise for my daughter having passed her grade 5 clarinet exam, and she was embarassed but chuffed to be met from school by Daisy. The driving was fun, although I never really got the hang of hill starts! I did spend a lot of time smiling and waving at people, which was fab.. We enjoyed sitting out in Daisy in the evening, just chatting and playing music, and having tea and toast in the morning. Daisy was surprisingly spacious and very comfy. My two girls slept out overnight, and were cosy despite it being a cold one.
We really miss her – it was a fun weekend and would urge anyone looking for an unusual, fun, and friendly weekend or week, to contact Daisy’s keepers – Tracy and John, who are so helpful.
We plan to hire yet another one soon – we have our eyes on Percy!

We hired Dylan as our wedding car in December. Right from the start Tracey and John were fantastic – great service, very friendly, and nothing was too much trouble. On the day Tracey was on time and was a great help – helping me with my dress, making sure everything rang smoothly, and driving us beautifully to our venue. We couldn’t have asked for more really, and at a very reasonable price! Thanks again Tracey, John and especially Dylan!

    October 2013
We had a truly marvellous time in Daisy’s company. We travelled up to the Northumberland coast, breaking the journey in each direction with an overnight stop at Robin Hood’s Bay.
Daisy is a delight and the convenience and cosiness of being able to stop and brew up at beauty spots or laybys of our choosing, was just great. It is a definite advantage that the VW camper has over larger campervans/motorhomes, that it provides very comfortable accommodation at night and the convenience of a car during the day for touring.
Driving Miss Daisy was a fairly easy adaptation to make from a more modern car. The gearbox provided the biggest challenge as ‘neutral’ seemed to elude me several times when I was searching for it, mostly at junctions. However, knowing it had to be in there somewhere was a comfort – as the cars behind patiently waited. Once I had developed the habit of ‘consciously’ taking the engine out of gear, so I knew where the lever was, it became less of a problem. The heater John has fitted is excellent, so we were never cold. It was also good to be able to plug in an MP3 player, listen to our own music and not be hostage to ‘Random FM’.
Fried breakfast never tasted so good as it did each morning sitting at the little table; the little fridge was very efficient and had more than enough capacity for our needs. Next time we might buy the campervan cookbook and try to extend our culinary repertoire.
We were delighted by the whole experience, which we are planning to repeat as soon as we can. Thanks to John and Daisy for an unforgettable trip.
    Mike and Debbie

We hired Daisy for a long weekend trip to the Lake District. It was great! Although the weather was a little bit fresh and very windy, Daisy kept us warm at night, even without the heating. The mountain streets with an extrem gradient were no problem thanks to the new engine. All in all Daisy is in perfect shape and we had a lot of fun!
Thanks again, John, it was a wonderful trip and we much appreciated your helpfulness and your uncomplicated manner!

Daisy is the best thing ever on par with Dougal (we love Dougal)

We have just returned from an excellent holiday to Northumberland in ‘Liberty’. We couldn’t fault the organisation, value for money and general friendliness of John at Liberty Campers. It was our first camper van trip and despite the time of year we had a fabulous holiday. The North East is a great destination and we enjoyed stopping off at various places to brew up the most. If you have any reservations about this type of holiday, just go for it, you will have a great time.

We hired Dylan for our wedding on the 29th June 2013. A great camper which seated six of us in the back with no problems. A stunning looking VW that looks great on the road and in our wedding photos. A huge thank you to John and Tracey, who provided an excellent service right from our first enquiry. Prompt, professional and extremely friendly people, would highly recommend them for any special occasion.

  101. Sophie Cousins Says:

Daisy was hired from Friday to Monday as part of a surprise for my 30th birthday. What an amazing experience!!! The van was in mint condition and came with its own fridge, 2 gas ring job and grill. We travelled up to the lakes and on our journey stayed in Cumbria, Ambleside and Malham. Daisy was superb to drive and we cruised happily at 50mph. It was an unforgettable experience and everywhere we went people commented about Daisy which is a credit to John and the high standard to which she is kept. I cannot wait to hire another van from Liberty! Thanks John, Sophie & Gail xx

  102. Vikki Thompson Says:

We hired Dylan for our wedding on 2nd August 2013. It was sooooo exciting we both had a fantastic time travelling from the church to the venue. 104. tscottdev Says:

It’s been a little bit of a pipe dream of mine to take off behind the wheel of an old VW camper van. A couple of years ago a friend had posted some pictures on Facebook of their weekend travels through Yorkshire in an orange Type 2. I enquired where they got the van from and they pointed me in the direction of Liberty Campers.

I decided to take the plunge for this years summer holiday with my nine year old daughter and take off in a T2 to Wales. I contacted John at Liberty Campers and booked ‘Dougal’, the very same camper my friend hired, for the trip. John explained that Dougal was a newer Type 2 with a water cooled engine that tend to be more reliable on a longer trip. Don’t be fooled into thinking it’s a modern vehicle, it’s not. Other than the engine nothing has really changed and you are still driving a vehicle that made it’s debut in the late 1960’s. As John pointed out motorways hadn’t been invented when the VW camper van was first conceived.

On the day of departure my daughter and I drove over to meet John and Dougal in Ilkley where they are based. John is obviously an enthusiast. He maintains and restores his own vans and is keen that people get a sense of what heading out in a Type 2 is all about. It’s not about caning it down the motorway, a comfortable cruising speed is around 40 or 50 mph. It’s about slowing things down, finding the back roads, taking in the scenery and enjoying the ride. John showed us round the van and explained the equipment. Dougal comes with a pop-up roof where my daughter excitedly wanted to sleep, a small fridge, a two ring gas stove and grill, sink with running water, CD player with an iPod/Aux connector, an electric hookup, kettle, heater, cutlery and cooking equipment. The back seat folds out to make a bed for the grown ups. The fridge, water pump and interior lights work off a separate 12 volt leisure battery that is charged as you drive so you don’t need to worry if your campsite doesn’t have an electric hookup. You can also charge your phone off it! On our 10 day trip we only managed to hookup on two nights and it wasn’t a problem at all.

After our introduction we set off on our adventure to Wales. Driving takes a little getting used to but after a few miles you start to get familiar with it then it’s big grins all the way. You don’t have the luxury of power steering but there is something satisfying about turning the big old steering wheel. The gearbox is the same after you get used to it. It has four forward gears and a long gear stick and the gears pop in with a gratifying clunk. The handbrake is on a ratchet in the dashboard just above the gear lever which takes a bit of getting used to as well. Once you are used to it, however, it’s a pleasure to drive as you bimble along twisting winding roads waving at other VW campers coming the other way.

Allow a lot of extra time for your journey as you’ll want to pull up at the side of the road or stop off at a picnic spot and put the kettle on and wonder why everyone else is in such a rush. In a camper van it really is about the journey not the destination. We took Dougal down through Welshpool to Cardigan then up through Snowdonia and back along North Wales. Parked up near the beach or driving along coastal roads and mountain passes it was sheer pleasure and relaxation. The van was a real talking point and even my daughter was bringing her campsite friends over to have a look at it. During the day we’d drive out to the beach or head off to the local sights or just go for a drive. On an evening it was nice just sit to sit in the van with the sliding door open with a book and a glass of wine watching the sun go down while my daughter ran off with her new found friends. On quieter evenings we’d sit in the van and play with the travel board games we’d brought. There was no need for television or computer games.

I know this review seems somewhat biased but it’s hard to fault taking to the road in a piece of 60’s nostalgia. If you are expecting all the comforts of home you are missing the point somewhat. This is all about leaving modern life behind, winding down and taking your time and we both loved it.

Home from a 4 day trip to the Yorkshire coast in Percy. Fantastic! We enjoyed the whole experience. We stayed overnight in York, Whitby, outside Scarborough and York again. Percy was immaculately clean, well equipped and behaved perfectly. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Liberty Campers for a fun experience. Thanks to John and Tracey for making it simple and easy to organise.

  106. Jennie Johnson & Chris Holmes Says:

We hired Daisy for a wedding weekend two weeks ago and what fun we had! Daisy had the duty of taking the groom and best men up to Appletreewick on the morning of the wedding and then we had the pleasure of staying in her for 2 nights. Excellent drive and easy to handle, couldn’t fault Daisy in slightest. She was immaculate, well equipped and very comfortable to sleep in. We loved the campervan cutlery and cups, really nice touch!

John and Tracey were fabulous, so helpful from Day 1 and we would definitely hire Daisy, or any of the other vans from them again. Thank you so much for making the wedding that extra bit special 🙂

Just back from a lovely 9 day VW Camper Odyssey in the lovely Liberty T5 Camper. I’m not sure what more words I can say other than BRILLIANT RELIABLE COMFY.

The T5 was a pleasure to drive and live in, the instructions from John at Liberty were very easy to understand. The van was spotless and clean and an absolute perfect way to spend a holiday.

From start to finish the experience far exceeded my expectations, I was sad to take the van back and will certainly be coming back to hire sometime very soon.

If you are thinking of hiring a Camper from Liberty Campers then I can whole heartedly recommend them.

    See you again soon!!

    Paul & Molly (Pudsey).

  108. Liz Says:

We hired Percy for a wedding last weekend (some other members of the wedding party hired a couple of the other vans) and had a blast! It was really good fun to drive and was well equipped with everything we needed. It was a more comfortable stay than I had perhaps thought it would be! The vans have great character and I would definitely hire again. John and Tracey could not have been more helpful, answering my (many) questions and being extremely accommodating regarding the collection of Percy – making things much less stressful getting up to the location of the wedding.

    Thank you!!!

  109. Deborah Says:

It’s been my lifelong ambition to holiday in a VW and Daisy made it a brilliant time. Daisy was spotless and perfectly equipped – the VW plates, cups etc are a fab touch! John at Liberty could not have been more helpful – letting me and my 3 year old twins visit to check Daisy out before we went, talking us through everything really clearly and being so very patient. Thanks Daisy for an awesome holiday!

  110. kim robb Says:

We had the best holiday ever in Daisy. What a babe! We took her to the Lakes and she handled everywhere we went. Mint to drive and such a lot of attention everywhere we went. We had the camper van cookbook to support us and this was the bible to get the best out of Daisy. Thanks for the cozy nights sleep after sharp edge and striding edge. The best soundtrack to get her steady was The Eagles Hotel California and Fleetwood Mac, Rumours boy did she love it. Thanks to John she was immaculate and ready to go I am only sorry we cant keep her forever. Thanks to Dad now you have to keep this up every year we are in LOVE XXX devoted Kim & Steve (sos this is delayed it had been a big week) Well recommended!

After having a wonderful weekend away in Dougal with two adults and two young children visiting the Dales, we had a wonderful time beeping and waving at everyone we drove past and hopefully a holiday that the kids will remember when they are older.

  115. Paul Davies Says:

Having returned from another great ‘Liberty Camper Adventure’, this time in ‘Daisy’, we want to express our thanks to John and Tracey for ensuring everything went smoothly. The booking procedure was effortless. On Monday afternoon we were greeted by John, who reminded us of all the features of Daisy (although I had remembered the leisure battery trip switch!!). She was very clean and presentable. We set off and enjoyed a week in the Yorkshire Dales and on the Yorkshire coast, before heading to Cleethorpes to view the pier and ride the miniature railway. All too soon it was time to return Daisy(she had another engagement at Glastonbury!).
We covered 330 leisurely miles and had a great time. Thanks again. If you have any doubts about a campervan holiday then discuss with John and Tracey. They know the subject in depth and will answer all your questions!
One word of advice, before you go purchase a copy of ‘The Camper Van Cookbook Life on 4 wheels, cooking on 2 rings’ by Martin Dorey and Sarah Randell…..we did and cooked on board using many of the recipes in the book…..but even if you eat out it is still a very entertaining read!

    Best wishes

Third year running, Dougal this time, who looked after us very well on our trip to the Lakes.

As ever John and Tracey were lovely, and we had a great time. Weather was good too, which helped.

It’s great waving to other Camper drivers, and feeling very special as everyone smiled as we drove past.

We are hoping to make it 4 years in row.

We hired Percy for the may bank holiday weekend. We were blessed with glorious weather in the dales and a happy chappy vw camper van. Percy was a wonderful companion, co-operative, reliable and surprisingly comfortable.
As first time campervaners ,Tracy and John were patient and full of handy tips and advise, nothing was too much trouble, even when we got lost on the return home and Percy was a little late home,( dirty stop out ! ) .
We hope to see Percy again soon, and recommend Liberty Campers to anyone.

Hired Daisy for a few days with my three girls to visit Northumberland from York. My girls are used to their creature comforts and all things modern; they had never seen roll up windows in a car! Daisy was completely reliable, comfortable, and gave us no bother; in fact , she was a delight to drive and turned heads wherever we went. The service from John was superb and his hire briefing gave us all the info we needed to have a very enjoyable experience . I was impressed by the mechanical soundness of Daisy who held her own on the motorway and even managed to pass a few Range Rovers in true style! My six year old wants Daisy to come back…..

My parents hired Percy for us for a trip away for a few days as a wedding present. It was the most wonderful present …..Percy was immaculate, suprisingly comfortable and such incredible fun.
My parents said that John was extremely helpful throughout the planning and provided a fantastic service.
We would highly recommend hiring a camper van for a few days and using liberty campers! Hopefully we will be back for our 1year anniversary, if not before.

Just returned from a 10 day trip to Scotland in Liberty the T5. Had a fantastic time travelling up the West coast then across to Orkney for the Folk Festival. Covered over 1400 miles on a variety of roads including many mountains and Liberty never missed a beat. Great to drive and very economical. We loved the van and the freedom of just being able to pull up by a beautiful beach and rustle up a meal. We are now hoping to buy a camper.
A brilliant and friendly service from John, he even rang us to say the van was ready early as he was aware we had a long journey on our first day. We can’t recommend Liberty campers highly enough.

  120. marcia davey Says:

We hired Daisy to see if our family of four (my husband and I, a three and a six year old) would survive the campervan experience for four days. It was a huge success and we are now complete converts. Despite the weather not being brilliant, we were very cosy and warm, slept well, drank lots of tea, played snap and marvelled at the Yorkshire Dales. When the sun came out it was even better, and we were able to go for lovely walks. Malham cove was amazing and Catrigg Foss, near Settle is the most incredible waterfall we have seen in the UK. Thanks also to John and Tracey for being flexible with dates and for providing such a great service. We’re coming back to test out the more modern T5!

  123. David & Izzy Says:

Just returned from a mini adventure in Liberty the T5. My daughter absolutely loved it (as did I)!
Despite the freezing temperatures outside, we were more than comfortable on the inside. The van and the equipment were spotlessly clean and John & Tracey were extremely welcoming and efficient with the booking arrangements.
    We will definitely be back!

  124. Hilary and John Nunn Says:

Hi John and Tracey, Just to say a big thank you for our super Easter Weekend in Liberty and all your help and efficiency with the arrangements. Liberty was very comfortable and snug, despite the freezing temperatures over the Easter holidays, and great to drive. We had all the equipment we needed thank you and your recommendation on camping sites worked brilliantly and so our first campervan experience in the UK was a great success.

  125. Sally Waudby Says:

We just wanted to say a big thank you to John (we never met Tracey – but sure you are lovely too!) for the brilliant service that he provided us. Everything from the colourful website to the excellent communication throughout including a quick practical explanation of how everything worked.

We have just had an amazing ‘valentines’ weekend in the Dales in Daisy. We really fell in love with her and had a fun time. She also brought smiles to other peoples faces when they saw her – you can’t help it! 🙂

The dales were absolutely perfect, particularly Swaledale. We enjoyed open fires, bar-b-q’s, gorgeous streams and waterfalls, a little bit of snow and lots of sunshine, love and champagne! We will definitely be back!

I would definitely recommend hiring a VW camper from John and Tracey, it is a lovely experience and brings a lot of pleasure and laughter.

    THANKS

We hired Daisy to be my ride to our wedding in October and she turned lots of heads! She was then our ride for the rest of our Honeymoon around North Yorkshire. Daisy made our holiday really memorable and made lots of people smile! We would definitely recommend both Daisy and Liberty Campers to anyone!

  127. Kelly & Clive - Southampton Says:

It’s a day after our 5 day holiday with Daisy in the Lake District and we are missing Daisy greatly. You might think we were mad going away at this time of the year but it really was the most relaxing and pleasurable experience (the heater provided did help lol). We found the service we received from John to be friendly, accommodating and knowledgeable, you can tell he loves his job and takes pride in all the vans in their fleet. Daisy was immaculate throughout and has all the comforts you need for a trip away. The location of the company means you have access to some wonderful sites. On our holiday we stayed in Lake Windermere (Fallbarrow park), Ulverston (Bardsea Leisure Park), St Bees (Seacote Caravan Park) and Keswick (Scot Gate Holiday Park) all of which can be recommended for organisation, location, cleanliness and amenities. We will definitely use Liberty Campers again and have already recommended them to friends and family. Thank you to John, Daisy and Liberty Campers for a fantastic holiday.

  128. Neil,Christy,Kyle and Dylan Webster Says:

We took Liberty to The Scottish Highlands for the October half term and we absolutely loved it.The van itself drives lovely and cruises at 70-80 on those long drives between stops. The design couldnt be better in my opinion and there is plenty of storage space. The service we received from John was brilliant. We found him to be very accomadating even at short notice.I have been recommending him to all my friends and I will definately be using Liberty Campers again in the near future.
One last thing, everything that was in the van when we picked it up was spotlessly clean down to every last pot and pan.

Five star service and a very well looked after van.
Thanks again you made my kids holiday

  129. andrew Says:

Have had a great 3 days in the lakes and dales – One man and his dog (plus the three children – 16,15, 12).
Rang on spec 2 days before on the recommendation of another ‘first timer’ and were delighted that there was availability for the new ‘liberty’ vw van. May be not the romantic hippy feel of the classics but amazed by the ingenuity within it and drove like a dream – just like the VW Touran I drive at home, though a tad bigger. Had 3 great overnight stays in mixed weather – and once we’d discovered all the cubby holes and developed a system between us, we fitted in perfectly. A camping mat was helpful to pad out the beds in the pop up roof, but great nights sleep had by all – i expect no less from teenagers but even I slept soundly – mixture of country air, gentle rhythmic pattering of rain outside and a real sense of security – especially compared with the tent I’d originally planned for us to be in.
John was fantastic in his welcome – the whole outfit is to be highly commended including the sites he advised us to try – especially Howgill Lodge.
We will be back – hopefully with a bit more pre-planning.

  130. George Edwards Says:

We had a fabulous time at the Silverstone Classic with Percy the green camper van. John spent lots of time showing mummy and daddy around the van, then we put my seat in the front. Mummy soon got used to driving slowly, and I loved being able to see everything out of the front. We waved at other camper vans and at daddy when we passed him in his TVR on the motorway. After we got to the campsite it rained, but we were warm and dry in Percy.
I slept in the pop up roof, Mummy was afraid I might fall out but with all the fresh air I got I slept very well until I was woken up by the birds tweeting. It was a long muddy walk to see the racing but we could relax on Percy’s comfy seats in the evening. Daddy was happy because he could have lots of cups of tea and mummy was happy because she could still have her poached egg on toast for breakfast. I was happy because everyone looked at Percy and said how wonderful he was.
Percy coped brilliantly with the long drive back up the motorway to Yorkshire and all my friends came out to see him when we arrived home. I was sad to leave him but am already counting the sleeps until next year.

Dylan is beautiful and i made sure everyone got a picture of him! We drove through town to show him off and got smiles and waves from people i didn’t even know! People kept commenting on how lovely he was and what a great idea it was to have him as our wedding car, he really will not be forgotten! John and Tracey were so lovely and we didn’t have to worry about a thing, they took care of everything, and were more than happy to wait around for the many many pictures, and even let me sit in the drivers seat, sadly they kept tight hold of the keys or else i might have been off!! 😀 I would like to say a huge thanks for such a wonderful time in Dylan, it really made my day and i would totally recommend hiring him!

We’d never been in a campervan before, only tents. Daisy is a major step up! She’s kitted out with loads of creature comforts, even a freezer. There’s lots of little places to stash stuff.
John was very patient showing us all the vans to choose from and how everything worked. He and Tracey could not have been more helpful – they are really passionate about their vans, and rightly so.
We’d recommend Liberty Campers to anyone, the experience was wonderful from beginning to end, including deciding which campervan to choose!. Thanks John and Tracey.

  136. Dave and Rhiannon Says:

We had a fantastic time in Percy, he cheered us up in the rain! It was nice to see Dougal parked in our village tonight, and we can’t wait ’til next year when we can hire another camper as we have had a brilliant time this year and last.

Percy was a doddle to drive and the heater kept us warm and snug even with the Lake District weather being atrocious.

  137. Mathew Holmes Says:

At the beginning of June my girlfriend and I set off in Poppy for a week in the Lake District. She was perfect, she oozed character and it took no time at all to adapt to her being left hand drive. Everywhere we went we got smiles and waves.
The weather in Torver and Wasdale was wet, but this did not matter as Poppy was comfortable and equipped with everything we needed. John and Tracey are obviously very passionate about their vans and Poppy was in great condition considering she is forty two years old. John and Tracey were very helpful throughout the hiring process and would recommend Liberty Campers to anyone.
The week in Poppy was so good that I returned from the Lake District with a fiancée and we are now planning on hiring Dougal for our wedding next summer!
    Thank you.
    Matt and Lucy

  138. Amanda Says:

The rain may fall but the vans bring a splash of sunshine wherever they go! So if you need that ‘top up van’ – go for it now! 🙂

  139. Karon and the gang! Says:

Some might say going to a music festival in a Campervan is cheating….. we say its bloody good fun!

I hired Dougal last year for my daughter Alex’s 16th birthday present as she is VW Campervan mad. Needless to say we were not disappointed. We raved about our fantastic experience so much, that this year, we hired both Dougal and Daisy and off we went, 4 adults, 2 teenagers, an 11 year old and an 8 year old!

2 vans plus 1 awning = loads of room!. We went to Glastonbudget again (a Tribute Band concert) in Loughborough. The vans were loaded up and drove like a dream (once you’ve got used to the rather ‘unique driving experience that is’!), as I knew they would. John and Tracey really know there stuff, and are a pleasure to deal with.

Go on, go for it, you know you want to!!!!

  140. Amanda Says:

Hi all, well another wonderful weekend with Daisy, travelling along the coast with Nige and the 2 westies in the back! We brought smiles to faces, children waved and tourists took photos!… and I cant wait until the next time 🙂

  141. Jenny Wright & David Owen Says:

We took Daisy to the Lake District in the first week of May. We had an absolutely fantastic time; Daisy is gorgeous and very well furbished with everything that we needed for our first campervan experience. Daisy did very well on the hills throughout the lakes too! We felt really attached to Daisy and were very sad to have to hand her back at the end of the week! We have definitely caught the VW bug and cannot wait to hire another campervan (or maybe Daisy again!) from John and Tracey soon!

  142. G Shaw Says:

We have just returned from a fantastic long week-end with Dougal on the East Coast and Whitby. The experience was awesome and we enjoyed every minute of it. John and Tracey were so professional which made everything so easy for us. We cannot wait till the next time.
    Graham , Jean , Shaun , & Elaine ………..

  143. Keith, Milly and me..... Says:

    Keith, Milly and me…
Wow what do i say… had daisy for the weekend and then dougal from monday til friday (today) and both vans are fantastic, daisy has her big comfy bed, and dougal … well dougal is dougal and i just love him to bits… This is the third or maybe the fourth time we have hired from John and Tracy and as ever the service you get from them is AMAZING. Dougal is cool, cosy and a huge star with me (even in the pouring rain and wind)… would not hesitate to recomend them to anyone….. its a fantastic way to have some major fun….. so guys until next time a huge huge big thank you

A huge thank you!! We booked Dylan for our wedding on Sunday 1st April 2012 and so pleased that we did!
Tracey & John were fantastic from our first meeting, welcoming our two children into Dylan & keeping in contact with us throughout our wedding planning. The sun was shining on our wedding day & when Dylan turned up outside our house all my neighbours were out! Tracey was excellent as I was a slightly nervous bride & she really helped me feel relaxed. I travelled to the Register Office with my mum & my two children in Dylan & I was really well looked after (a stop en-route for Tracey to sort my stocking/suspender issue!) it was an enjoyable ride for us all..my kids chatted lots to John & Tracey, which was really lovely.
All our wedding guests were surprised when they saw Dylan after the ceremony (we’d kept it a secret!). Whilst some pictures were being taken, guests, including children, were allowed to sit in Dylan & beep his horn! (something our guests still talk about since our wedding – the fun & smiles Dylan put on everyone’s faces!). My husband Jon & I enjoyed sipping champagne while travelling to the hotel with our children on board too…didn’t want to journey to end.. Dylan is such a head-turner!! I would recommend booking Dylan if you are looking to have a car for your wedding…not just ANY camper van or company… it would HAVE to be LIBERTY CAMPERS, run by the wonderful John & Tracey.

  145. Richard Brassington Says:

It’s been a lifelong ambition to go away in a campervan, so it was brilliant to hire Percy for a mini-break at Easter. John and Tracey were helpful and friendly, and gave us a good introduction to him.

The 2 lads slept in the awning and my wife and I slept in the van. We spent many enjoyable hours relaxing in him, reading, cooking, eating … and we even had a marathon Monopoly game in him one night, which ended at 12.45am!!

I’d recommend Liberty Campers and the experience of hiring a classic VW campervan.

  146. Vicki Freestone Says:

Percy must really like the Lake District because he took my husband I and there last weekend for a special birthday treat. We had an amazing time at a lovely quiet campsite on Windermere where he was much admired.

Dave’s never managed to get me camping this early in the year in a tent and we braved subzero conditions for this trip. It was well worth it.

    We’ll definitely be back

  147. Matt Khan Says:

Just returned from an awesome time in the lakes with Percy…a truly memorable experience. Percy got all the attention at our camp site and so did he deserve it! Was so much fun to drive, stay in, and have an adventure with, there is something definitely unique about the VW Camper lifestyle! Not only was Percy great, but so were Liberty Campers, always helpful, professional and I highly recommend them for all!

  148. Amanda Says:

Hi everyone! We have used Liberty Campers over the last 2 years and had the pleasure of driving, Dougal (twice) Percy and Daisy (my personal favourite). If you are reading the blogs and wondering ‘should I?’ – can I say ‘Dont hesitate! Send that email now and I promise you, you will have a great experience from start to finish!

John is the ‘calm star’ who will talk you through from the beginning and make sure that your van is ready to go and any concerns along the way he will help you with.

I can’t say that the vans are speedy – they are not meant to be – but once you pull away and hit the road, or pull over for your first camper brew – the stress will drop away and the fun begins! After all lets face it when people are waving or smiling at your van, it makes up for all the previous months hassles driving to and from work in rush hour!

I have to say when we return the van I can’t wait till the next time and always feel sad to say farewell. 🙂
So until the next time … and dont forget to wave or smile as one of the vans drives past – you can’t miss the signature daisy logos!

    • Amanda Says:

Guess what? just seen the cutest van on the road and I have got VDubb envy yet again! Looks like I will be ringing John for another booking!
      Amanda 🙂

  149. Tracy Butler Says:

I treated my best friend Liz to a F1 weekend at Silverstone last year and surprised her with Dougal (which went down very well). The journey was fantastic, if a little slow (this girl racer is not used to travelling at 50mph (ish)). On our many pitstops at the motorway services we were ambushed by people wanting photographs taken with Dougal. The weather was pretty manky so not having to sleep in a tent was bliss. Dougal has all the mod cons.

Dougal rubbed shoulders with Aston Martins and Ferrari’s with ease.

I would strongly recommend hiring any of the campers from Liberty. The service was excellent. A thoroughly enjoyable experience that I intend to repeat.

  150. Darren Scotland (@DarrenScotland) Says:

We got married back in August and I hired Dylan as a surprise wedding car for Sarah – she was blown away and absolutely loved him!

John and Tracey were pretty good too – whisking us off for a whistle stop tour of Leeds whilst we quaffed champers in the back! Fantastic!

It was a day neither of us will forget and whilst Dylan only played a small part, he still made a bit impact – putting smiles all over our guests faces and leaving us with some awesome shots for our wedding album.

I’d heartily recommend both Dylan and John and Tracey. All three of you were brilliant. 🙂

  151. Rachelle Mortimer Says:

My new husband treated me to a ride home in ‘Dylan’ for my wedding present, and I must say it was fab! John and Tracy were ever so friendly and made the experience very special!! We will definatley be booking again with Liberty Campers – hopefully for a weekend away!! Thanks again!!

  152. Nick Errington Says:

    John

Just a quick note to say thank you for bringing Dylan to share our wedding day in Ilkley. We could not have been happier with the service you provided and some of the photos with the van and the white umbrellas looked fantastic. We would recommend Liberty Campers to anyone that is looking for something different to transport them in style on their wedding day.

    All the best

    Anna & Nick x

  153. Richard and Anji Says:

A big thank you to John and Tracey at Liberty Campers.

We decided a last minute get away to Snowdonia at New Year was just what we needed and hiring Daisy really made the break special.

It was the first time I’d been away in a VW camper and it made touring around easy and practical. Its going to be hard going back to canvas after the convenience of a 12V hook up 🙂

We’ll be back again when the weather warms up, sorry, is a little dryer.

Until then… Oh, and remember to take your iPod/CDs as the van has a great sound system!

  154. Katrina and Richard Says:

    Hello

I just wanted to say what an honour it was to have Dylan as our wedding car on 9th September!

He was a real talking point with all our guests who loved him just as much as we did.

Tracey and Hannah were brilliant at settling the last minute nerves meaning I could enjoy my last journey as a single woman

Thank you for letting Dylan be part of our day, it wouldnt have been the same without him!

  155. Amanda & The Mamas & Papas team Says:

Just wanted to say a MASSIVE thank you to the very lovely Dylan who really was the star of our Spring 1212 Mamas & Papas baby wear photo shoot.
We set up camp in a drive in studio over in Manchester back on a cold day in October, but looking at our pictures you would have thought they were taken in a California sun set after a hot summers day. Dylan was loved by all the children more than we could have ever imagined, honking the horn and pretending to drive, they laughed and gigged to their hearts content, we could never have wished for a more successful shoot, and I believe Dylan loved it just as much as the kids did!

And finally a big thank you to Tracey for bringing him over to the shoot and making sure he sparkled from every angle, he really was a beauty.

We really hope we get to meet Dylan again or even some of his friends on a future shoot.

Thanks again, Amanda & the M&P team x

  156. Rachael Altoft Says:

We hired Dylan for our wedding in August and he did us proud!! He was a super addition to our perfect chilled out day!!

A fantastic service, Tracey was so helpful and considerate! Thank you so much. We hope to book a different van to go away for our first wedding anniversary!

  157. Emma and David Brewster Says:

As you can clearly see Liberty Campers are a fantastic company. We will be ever thankful to Tracey and John…and Dylan (of course) for all their efforts to make our wedding day so perfect and special. We couldn’t have wished for a more kind, professional and enthusiastic couple to chauffeur us around on our wedding day.
    Thank you again,
    Emma and David Brewster

  158. Dave and Jill Says:

We had Dougal for the weekend of 14/16 October for the Pickering war weekend, He was brill, the perfect host for our adventure. The way that everything was provided, themed with the camper van motif on all the plates, cups spoons etc….amazing. Dougal was so clean tidy and well presented, a real prize, and the drive experience was all part of the adventure!! Such a good deal all round ,thank you.

  159. Nicola Miller Says:

Just got back from a week long trip in Dougal in the lake district. This was our first experience and what a fantastic holiday! Best holiday so far! Will definately be doing this in the future we had so much fun. Thanks to John too for all his help. Dougal is fab and very comfortable and is fully equipped with everything you need for a great camping experience.

  160. martin field Says:

Thank you John (and Dougal of course)for your most excellent service. We had a long weekend away in the dales with Dougal to look after us and thoroughly enjoyed every minute. Dougal is so smart comments overheard through his cute little pop open quarter-lights included “that is the most awesome van!”. He even brought smiles to the faces (and cheery waves from) of a group of weary teenage Dof E hikers. This is a must do again thing….can’t wait. :-))

  161. Alison and Sarah Says:

Just back from a few days in North Yorkshire with Daisy, brilliant. We can only echo other comments – outstanding service from John and Tracey, and just a wonderful experience to drive and live in a camper (a long-held ambition of ours). Could have done without learning to drive her in the tail-end of a hurricane but that was out of everyone’s control! We’ll be back – thank you for helping us have such a happy holiday experience.

  162. Sanjay and family Says:

Had a great family weekend away with Percy touring the Yorkshire Moors and Dales. John and Tracey were very thorough and helpful. Percy was well presented with everything we needed for a fantastic holiday.

I cannot recommend them highly enough. Personal service, advice and always on the end of a mobile for any ‘in-camper’ questions. Outstanding service!

    Thank you.

  163. stevej131 Says:

Just got back today from taking Daisy to the Lake District for a 3 night break. Had a great time and Daisy was very good – easy to drive and spotlessly clean. And of course very stylish. We are a family of four so my wife and I slept in the main cabin and two boys in the extended roof cabin – easy to set up. Very comfortable too.
Wherever we went we had loads of interest in Daisy. The Lake District was a good choice (mixed weather!) as for a 3 night trip we were able to get there from West Yorkshire quite easiy and there are some great campsites with superb views.

  164. Claire Ward Says:

We can’t thank you enough John & Tracey for letting Dylan be such a special part of our wedding on 18 August 2011.

Your company was an absolute pleasure to deal with throughout, and you were were the most wonderful chauffeurs-patient, generous, kind and punctual-and really helped make our day so perfect.

Everyone loved Dylan-a model fruit cake Dylan was even made to adorn the top of our wedding cake!

Thank you again so so much. Hope to see you again in the future

  165. Suzan Says:

    Suzan, Jennie, Archie & Oliver
    We love Daisy!
We had four fantastic days in various parts of Yorkshire with Daisy. She behaved impeccably and we would love to take her with us on holiday again!
The boys loved sleeping in the ‘roof’ and the rock and roll bed was incredibly comfortable. Our favourite part of having a camper van was being able to set off to our next destination and just choose a beautiful place to stop and have breakfast. That and the admiring glances we got where ever we went.
John was incredibly helpful and we recommend Liberty campers whole heartedly!

  166. Wendy and Steve Says:

    Dear John and Tracey,

We had such a fantastic time when we took a mini break in Daisy last year, we have been looking ever since to get our own. We have decided to spend our kids inheritance and bought a ’62 split sub hatch which is currently undergoing restoration. Should be with us in about 10 weeks – can’t wait to get back on the road and get the smile back on our faces.

Our new lifestyle choice is all down to John, Tracey and of course Daisy It was good to see you both at Harewood on Sunday and we will keep in touch.

    Best wishes
    Wendy and Steve

  167. Abigail Ridehalgh Says:

Daisy became our wedding vehicle and she was amazing – she played the perfect part. Our wedding was a mix of a music festival/Eccentric English tea party/English Fete, and with my husband and I having strong leanings to the 1960s (and early 70s) she fit the part perfectly.
We returned from the ceremony in her to the fields. The guests were camping over, so we decided to camp in style with the help of Daisy. Amazingly we even managed to fit the travel cot of our 1 year old in too (much to my husbands dismay – he wanted our daughter in his parents tent!).
Easy to drive, wonderful to stay in and definitely an amazing part of our wedding. Thank you for making everything so simple Liberty Campers.
Abigail, Andrew and Ida Gaines X

  168. Sam Wood Says:

What a great weekend in Whitby with Percy!! Can’t remember when we laughed so many big belly laughs about the simple things in life – a great way to catch up with old friends and chill out.

Thanks Tracey and John for all your help, we will be back!!

  169. Cheryle, Sam and Pauline Says:

My friend wanted to a girlie weekend with a twist, something memorable and fun … driving Percy did not dissappoint. I found the gears and steering extremely hard but once I’d got used to it (pretty quickly in Friday rush hour traffic) it was fantastic. Brian was beautiful and well equipped and we loved the campervan crockery and cutlery. We headed off to Hebden Bridge and unexpected detour to Scunthorpe and then stayed a night in Otley.
It was a squeeze for the 3 of us but we managed and can’t wait to do it again!would

    • Cheryle, Sam and Pauline Says:

Sorry definitely Percy not Brian was our van. Forgot also to thank John for the offer of a test drive.

  170. Colette & Mike Says:

Just returned from a fantastic weekend in the Dales in the company of Poppy. The trip was a birthday present for Colette who has talked about a campervan trip for a long time. Thankfully it did not disappoint. It took a little time to get used to Poppy, who is left hand drive and of a certain age, but it was an absolute pleasure to be behind the wheel. The beauty of driving Poppy is that you are obligated to travel relatively slowly, thereby having the time to soak up the views and enjoy the sheer pleasure of taking your time over something.

Poppy was perfectly equipped and was able to provide for our every need. We were both surprised as to how comfortable a campervan can be – a good night’s sleep was had by all.

We can recommend High Laning campsite at Dent and Wood Nook near Threshfield (a tip from John). A big thanks to John and Tracey for their help in planning our trip and recommendations for places to stay and eat. Their obvious passion for VW’s is infectious and they were always willing to help.

If you have never done this before, we gave it a big thumbs up. We had pretty high hopes and were not let down. Rather than feeling like a normal vehicle hire for the weekend, it felt like we were looking after someone’s child or favourite possession – and we mean that in the nicest possible way. Give it a whirl!

  171. Tim & Chrissy Says:

I had decided where we would go and Chrissy had decided how we would go! For my 40th birthday I wanted to do a tour of Yorkshire and its finest breweries and pubs. Yet right up to the moment we collected Percy I had no idea what Chrissy had planned and as we drove into Addingham I was blindfolded to keep the surprise right up to the last minute.

What a great surprise it was too! We picked Percy up and spent the next week touring the dales, the moors and the coast, from Skipton, to Hawes, to Masham, to Robin Hood’s Bay and all in between. In that time Percy never missed a beat and was impressively capable of going up (and down) several 1:4 inclines we encountered en route. On the way to Tan Hill we even found ourselves caught up in a vintage car rally! Our times weren’t perfect but Percy acquitted himself well on the hill climb section! One of the great things about Percy is that he was fun to drive – something that’s missing in a lot of cars these days.

We certainly attracted attention wherever we went and enjoyed exchanging waves with other camper vans we encountered. Part of the enjoyment was staying at some great sites in the evening and John gave us some recommendations that all came good.

For anyone interested, we recommend the Theakston’s brewery tour in Masham and The Birch Hall Inn in Beck Hole!

All in all a great way to spend time exploring our beautiful country!

  172. Amy Says:

We hired Dougal and travelled to the Isle of Wight festival, it was a great experience and were the envy of a lot of other campers! Dougal attracted a lot of attention in a lovely way and it was an experience we will never forget. Would happily recommend Liberty Campers to anyone they made everything very easy and straight forward. Thanks! Amy.

  173. Toni & Mike Says:

A fantastic weekend was had by all! Percy was a hit with the five of us, especially our three kids ( 9 7 & 5 ) who were grinning and, at times, speechless for much of the weekend. We had great fun travelling to the Yorkshire Moors with many a fellow VW fan waving at us; it was like being in a cool club!
The kids have never been so eager to go to bed at night &, enjoyed the surprisingly spacious pop up roof bed. Even the dog found a spot to sleep in the campervan!
All in all, hubby was very happy with his early Father’s Day surprise, I was happy that the kids were having a ball &, to seal the weekend, Tracey and John thought of everything to ease us in to the campervan way of life: crockery and cups etc for 5 people ( NOT 4 as often the case!! ) & even washing up liquid. Their personable approach was first class.

    THANK YOU! We’ll be back…….

  174. Jonathan White Says:

We had Dylan as our wedding car from Meanwood Church to the Bridge Inn Hotel at wetherby in May2011. For me the whole Dylan experience really topped off a perfect day and Wedding (other than the weather). All our guests said the idea of the VW Bus was great and we have just received our pictures back from the photographer and as you can imagine they look something else with Dylan in the background.
I would like to take this opportunity to say a big thank you to Liberty Campers and recomend them to and Bride and Groom.

  175. Dave and Rhiannon Says:

Just got back from 4 days with Daisy in the Dales. It was a fantastic experience for both my daughter ( aged 12 who is flower power crazy) and me (aged 43 and who had always liked Campers, but never tried one).

It was a bit tricky to drive for about three or four minutes and then the whole slower pace of life thing kicks in. Brilliant fun, well equipped and spotlessly clean!!

Everybody we met wanted to chat, Daisy is a real ice breaker.

    We will be back

  176. Alex Jowett Says:

We hired Dougal for a long weekend and we absolutely adored him. I love VW campers alot and this company managed to give me the perfect weekend in my dream car!
He was comfy, warm and surprisingly spacious inside especially with the awning attached. The sound system was really good and we were soo all singing whilst plodding down the little country roads on the way to a music festival in Leicester. Everyone waved at us as we drove down the streets and it was the best weekend i’ve ever had. the staff were really lovely and showed me their other vans that they own, including a beautiful left hand drive original split screen from the 60’s. i fell a little more in love with campers haha.
the van was exactly what i’d hoped for and more, it even had a fridge and cuttlery that were covered in in camper vans!! how cute!

i will defiantly come to the company again next year and will recommend them to anyone, thank you for an amazing weekend!

    🙂

  177. Jo & Dee Says:

I wanted to thank Tracey and John for making our special day even more special! My partner and I our mad VW campervan fans and our bridesmaids had secretly organized a trip in Dylan the day of our civil partnership ceremony. It was 3 days before Christmas and snow was everywhere, a perfect setting for a drive around the Yorkshire Moors. It was our first trip in a VW and we weren’t disappointed. Tracey and John were fantastic hosts and had thought of everything. Mulled wine, blankets – the lot!

It was such a fantastic idea of our bridesmaids and meant Jo and I could actually spend sometime together on the day of our wedding (doing something we love, we are now looking for our very own VW) . Our photos of Dylan and us in our dresses are beautiful – what a day to remember. Perfect!

    Approve it: http

  178. Bob and Max Says:

Max and I hired Percy April 27th for 3 nights for a father and son camping trip. He is a new addition to the campervan fleet. He was great, drove like a dream, quite nippy too! Everything was in perfect condition when we got him, clean, tidy and comfortable. We took sleeping bags and bought some supplies before we got him and everything else was there to cook with, clean with and survive with.
When we picked him up, Tracy and John were very helpful and friendly. We left the car there over the 3 nights. The van was full of fuel and raring to go. We felt like proper campervaners, it was brill. Can’t recommend this experience enough, we will be back for sure. Thank you for a great time (lots of friends very jealous!)

  179. Jon & Becky Says:

This weekend we returned from a fantastic week with Dougal touring the South-West of England. What can we say? it was fab!!! neither of us had ever camped before and we’re surprised at how comfortable and cosy it could be. Tracey and John thought of everything! from washing up liquid, to salt and pepper, and even a set of boules. Our highlights??? setting out for the first time learning to master the bus-style wheel and old-fashioned gears, fellow VW campervans waving and flashing lights at us, getting cosy in the evening closing the funky, flowery curtains and snuggling down with a hot-water bottle and tea on the stove. It would be shame not mention the great sound system too especially if you have the Beach Boys on your iPod :o) Overall this was a 5* experience and we’ve already recommended Liberty to all our friends and family. We miss you Dougal! 😦

  180. Shaman Durrant Says:

Wow, what can I say! We had previously hired Dylan for our wedding last June and he was the talking point of the whole day! We loved travelling in Dylan from the church to Woodhall and John and Tracey made us feel very relaxed.

My husband has a bit of a campervan obsession and as a surprise I contacted Liberty Campers to arrange a short hire for a tour of the North Yorkshire Moors. As usual, John and Tracey were very professional and friendly and made the whole process very easy! We hired Poppy between 25 and 29 April and we had such a great time! You couldn’t help but be happy driving through the countryside in a campervan – there were very many waves and smiles from everyone else as we went by!

I would suggest anyone thinking of hiring a campervan to go ahead and do it! It has been one of the best weeks we have had and I would highly recommend John and Tracey for all their help and advice, and excellent vans!

  181. Alison Says:

We have just returned from a short break on the East coast in Dougal and had an amazing time. The main reason for hiring a camper van was to try before we buy but once we saw a picture of Dougal we instantly fell in love with him. I hired the van on my own for myself and my daughter and was slightly nervous about getting to grips with driving and parking, but actually found Dougal was a joy to drive and very easy to park.
My daughter Tianna was really excited going to bed in the van and we found it really cosy with all the storage you need. Dougal even got a big hug and a kiss from her every night before she went to bed! It was loads of fun to drive and we felt very special when we got waves from other camper vans.
John was extremely helpful and friendly and provided very thorough instruction on using and driving the van and kindly even agreed to drop the van off for us. Our trip has definitely made my mind up to buy a VW camper but in the mean time we are already planning our next trip and Tianna has her eye on Daisy this time!!
Its great fun and it you want to feel like a big kid all over again you should definitely give it a go.
    Alison and Tianna

Found Liberty Campers by searching the web and really glad we did. John & Tracey are really helpful and everything ran smooth through booking to pick up and drop off. Absolutely fantastic, if you are reading this blog and thinking of doing it, don’t think anymore just book it, it’s absolutely fantastic.

We have not stopped smiling yet and already planning our next adventure. We took Daisy up to Northumberland and she was brilliant, lovely, cute and very comfy, the number of people that stopped to ask about her was untrue. We haven’t stopped SMILING!!! without doubt one of the best weeks we have had for ages. Initially the kids 17 & 15 weren’t as keen as we were but thats all changed now. Keep up the good work John & Tracey and see you soon.

  183. Roger and Vicky Says:

    Dear John and Tracey
Just returned from three nights in Daisy with Joe 8, Livi 7 and Pedro the Labrador. It will be a weekend we will all remember so fondly. Daisy carried the childrens bikes on the back and they had a wonderful time cycling in Norfolk. The 3 best bits apparently were : 1. the fact that other VW campevan drivers flashed their lights and waved 2. The toast in the morning 3. The kids wanted to go to bed for a change.
This was a great holiday, thank you so much.
    Thank you so much.

  184. keith lauren milly Says:

    Hello John and Tracy
Well what can I say… we took Daisy for our pre booked week after our mini break monday to friday and WOW! she kept us warm and dry during some very high winds in the lakes, Once again she stole the show where ever she went and is a star all round. Liberty campers are fantastic and very professional and I can not recommend them enough. One downside to the holiday was we had to return Daisy and I was gutted…… ok lets rehash that bit SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO GUTTED!!!!!I would have been happy to keep her full stop. All I ask now of Liberty (John) is that he seriously considers increasing the Fleet of fantastic vans so that I can hire from them again in June…. Hint Hint Hint John….
So once again THANK YOU SOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH and hopefully see you in june
Lauren Keith and of course Milly

  185. keith lauren milly Says:

well, we have just taken daisy on a mini break before our week away in her next week… confused.. well i couldnt wait it was tooooooooooo many sleeps till the 28th. Anyway back to Daisy… what a little gem she is… a princess amongest the beasts (caravans) a daisy amongest the thorns (motorhomes). Having hired Dougal for the last two years from John and Tracy I was a little unsure about taking Daisy at first … only because I love Dougal and it just felt wrong BUT! Daisy won me over within a very short amount of time and the super big bed was awesome. Our first stop was a site near whitby called Humble bee farm and its a lovelly dog friendly site. Within seconds of arriving Daisy stole the show, as she did everywhere we went. All tooooooooooo soon our mini break was over and we have returned Daisy to John ready for the next campers to take her for the weekend! only compensation is Monday the 28th March is only 3 sleeps away. Therefore to anyone reading this wondering whether to hire from Liberty campers I would say DO IT. John and Tracy are fantastic and Dougal and Daisy are amazing. Going away in a campervan is a love afair with fun freedom and living the dream…. Which ever camper you take you are sure to turn heads, have fun and want to hire again and again and again… just like us… Anyway watch this space for our next posting…. keith lauren and milly

  186. Justin & Clare Says:

We’ve just returned from a 5 day break hiring Daisy.
We had a fantastic time driving around Yorkshire and Northumberland. The nights were around 0 degrees, but the electric fan heater warmed things up just nice. Daisy was completely reliable and didn’t give us any worries at all, even on muddy fields. There’s a fridge, two-ring gas hob, a little storage space and a wide bed that’s really easy to set up. The pop-up roof is straight forward to put up, and with a bit of patience and common sense, easy enough to put down. All in all we had a great few days and we didn’t want to take her back! We were amazed by how much attention we got, with people looking, taking photos, asking us questions etc..
John and Tracey are keen campers and it shows. They are very professional and friendly. Good luck with the business.
    Thanks again

  187. david daly Says:

    Dear Tracey & John
well, our second visit to Liberty Campers has just ended. We took Daisy for a short week trip around the Dales via Wetherby races (three winners!) and a variety (!) of campsites; thanks to the Angel Inn in Knayton and the Tennents in Kilnsey for their support.
Josh and Sam are now 17 and 14 (see our fist blog on 19/04/09) and they clean forgot they were teenagers this week as they regressed to being kids. Josh is 6′ 2″ but still fitted into the pop top with Sam.
So, back to the day job now and to being a serious adult again, but only for a while until Dougal or Daisy call us back again!!
    thanks Tracey & John

  188. Kev Says:

We hired Dougal for a weekend to try him out with a view to eventually buying our own van, it was the first time we had tried one and it did not dissapoint.

A very wet and windy weekend in the North York Moors and Whitby did not datract from the great fun and freedom that Dougal gave us. Dougal is very well laid out and extremely cosy even with a storm howling outside!

Easy to drive and very practical whether you are on the open road or parking up in the busiest of town center car parks and he certainly draws plenty of admiring glances wherever you take him.

John was very helpful both via e-mail and phone before collecting Dougal and then by giving us a very informative brief when we arrived to collect, the fact that he also let us leave our car with him was a great help.

All in all a great weekend and we can’t wait to do it again, hopefully this time with a bit of sunshine!

  189. Mike & Elaine Says:

We hired Dougal for the weekend just gone and the whole experience was excellent. From the initial contact and booking (simple) to bespoke pick up and drop off times, nothing was too much trouble. Had a great day out at Filey, parked at the top of the cliff and made a brew – with the views along with the peace and quiet, it doesn’t get much better.
The only problem we have now is Elaine wants one…….
Thanks to both John and Tracey.

  190. Robert Jarman Says:

I hired Daisy camper out as a surprise for my girlfriend this valentines weekend. We had a great little trip up to Whitby via Helmsley.
The first night we stopped in the car park by the glider station on Sutton bank and the second night we parked up right on the edge of the beach in Sandsend. It was a fab trip and we really enjoyed wild camping in Daisy. She didnt miss a beat all weekend and is as good as new inside. We want one!!
    Thankyou Liberty campers

  191. Lizzie Hendley Says:

I hired Dylan as a surprise present for a friends Civil Partnership and they absolutely loved him! Both being campervan lovers and hoping to own one in the future, their faces and excitement were priceless!! I knew I had made the right decision to book him by their reaction.

They had a drive around Bolton Abbey with mulled wine and had many pictures with Dylan and thought he was amazing. They couldn’t stop smiling and didn’t want to let him go. I know they are planning on having a trip in one of the other vans in the summer.

John and Tracey have been so helpful over the last few months when I was booking him and were very accomodating especially as it was Christmas week.

I would recommend Dylan to anyone that is looking to make their day extra special or a surprise.

    Thanks again.

    Lizzie

  192. Nathan & Lynsey Says:

    Thank you!
We hired Dylan for our wedding and it was nearly the star of the whole show , even the vicar mentioned him in the service! John and Tracey couldn’t have been any more helpful and friendly from the initial viewing all the way to the big day. As a massive VW nut Dylan was the perfect choice of vehicle and in pristine condition all helping to make it a magical day.

We both just wish the reception was further away so we could have enjoyed the ride for even longer.

    A massive thank you!

    Nathan & Lynsey

  193. Gary & Helen Hobson Says:

    Hi John (and Tracey)

We would like to both say a massive thank you for bringing ‘Dylan’ along to be a BIG part of our fantastic wedding day on the 28th September. You did a wonderful and professional job as our chauffeur and at times as our ‘stand in’ photographer. We both loved being in Dylan on our trips to and from the Register Office. Everyone said Dylan was great and all who jumped into him for a ride had a great time later. Both you and Dylan were missed when you finally left. All heads in Wakefield and Wrenthorpe were turned in our direction and all were in awe of Dylan’s beauty.

We will recommend liberty campers to anyone we speak to and we hope that you get out of your business as much as you put into it. You’re highly recommended.

We’ll look forward to hiring one of the other vans next year for a holiday.

Many thanks and our best wishes.

    Gary & Helen Hobson

  194. Claire & Ian Says:

Hi! I booked Dougal for my Husbands 40th Birthday (a reminder of his childhood days in their family camper!). Really wasn’t sure what to expect, however the service provided by John was brilliant from my initial request. We collected Dougal from Otley on Friday afternoon…Dougal was amazing! Very clean, very comfortable and great fun! Our two kids (12, 10) slept comfortably in the pop up roof and the kitchen area was very well equipped for breakfast by Ullswater!

I would like to thank John and Tracey for a brilliant service which we will definately repeat!

    Thanks again!

  195. Sarah, Richard, Alex, Toby & Sam Says:

Richard booked a weekend in Daisy for my birthday. It was the best birthday present I have EVER had.
John had sent a photo of Daisy that Richard made into a gift card, and the memory of me & three small boys bouncing on the bed with glee when I opened the envelope is one we will both treasure for many years.
Our four year old hugged the van on arrival, and after fitting 3 car seats we escaped across the North York Moors, via Newcastle, Hull & York (a long story…). 60s music works well on the cd player as you drive through Heartbeat country!
The boys fitted well on the sleeping shelf (6,4 & 2), and our youngest is the only reported child to have fallen off it in the night. How he wriggled forwards in his sleep is a mystery, but he had no injuries & went straight back to sleep!
Richard has been thrilled with the care & attention he has had from Liberty, and we were the talk of our street, the school run & now Facebook, where my new profile picture is one of me beaming out of Daisy. I miss her already! Thank you – I can’t wait for my birthday next year now!!

  196. Tracey Says:

Hi Tracey , it’s Tracey ha ha from the wonderful LCC …I just want to say I absolutely love this site its brilliant and very informative.. and seriously in the future if the kids and I decide to do a little touring and camping I will for sure contact you with regard to hiring a Camper, was lovely to have met you bye for now Tracey xx

  197. Michelle & Dave Crowther Says:

My husband and I hired both Daisy & Dougal in May & June this year and we absolutely fell in love with them both!

We used Daisy for our Wedding car at our beautiful Wedding at Harewood House. She looked amazing with the ribbons and bows, everyone loved our funky & different Wedding car! We hired Daisy for the week and so headed off to Filey, Scarborough & Whitby straight after the Wedding for some,’Mini Moon’ fun! Daisy turned the whole campsites heads, and we were waved at and beeped at constantly!

Once we returned from our next Honeymoon, we then took Dougal to Glastonbury! The bright orange van was FAB to have at a festival, easy to find! Dougal was loved by all who camped near us, and we even made some homemade car magnets with , ‘Just Married’ on.. which went down amazingly! Dougal was so much fun and added a touch of coolness, glamour & comfort all rolled into one!

We were so sad to see both Daisy & Dougal go, that we’ve hired Daisy again for Glastonbury 2011. We can’t wait!

Special thanks to Tracy & John for helping to make our Wedding & Honeymoon so memorable, we will treasure the memories & the photos!

    Michelle & Dave xx

  198. Shaman and Carlton Durrant Says:

    Dear Tracey and John.

Dylan was (almost!) the star of our wedding! We hired him for our very special day on 19 June 2010 and he made the day extra special. My bridesmaids (and photographer) were delighted to be taken to the church in Dylan and my husband and I were very excited to be travelling back to Wood Hall as Man and Wife in him!

I also wanted to say a huge thank you for your help and organisation and of course for letting us hire Dylan as our wedding car! We (and everyone else) had so much fun.

    All the best,

    Shaman and Carlton Durrant

  199. Steph & Mike Says:

We took Daisy out for a weekend at Latitude, I must say, driving through a small village with a stunning campervan had people talking! Daisy was fully equipped and very comfortable to sleep in! Through the festival many people came over to look at Daisy in awe! Many thanks to John and Tracey who were very helpful and accomodating. We had no problems with Daisy and she drove beautifully!

    Many thanks!

    Steph & Mike 🙂

  200. Jenny & Rob Norfolk Says:

  202. Catherine Says:

I work for a charity that wanted to promote the work we do in our area. We decided to hire Dougal for 2 weeks to help us do that. He certainly did we had lots of people coming up to have a look at him which allowed us to speak to them.

We have hired an original 1970’s van previously but found it very difficult to drive, it also smelt very musty and leaked terribly when it rained. We had none of these problems with Dougal he was incredibly easy to drive and the interior was immaculate, with everything you could possibly need.

I enjoyed having him so much that my boyfriend and I will be hiring him for a holiday next year.

Thanks a lot to John and Tracey who did everything they could to be helpful.

    Catherine, LINkrotherham

  203. Donna, Pete & Ava Says:

There are no words for when Dylan arrived at my house on Saturday for my wedding! He was everything I expected and more. He was a big conversation starter and people couldn’t help but smile as he drove past.
    He complimented my bridesmaids beautifully!
My hubby was hugely impressed with him and it has made his craving for one of our own much stronger!
We can’t thank John and Tracey enough for everything, they kept communications going in the months leading upto the wedding, and catered all our needs. And were happy to keep 9 month old Ava occupied while we had a few photos just the two of us, and Dylan!
We had a wonderful wedding day, the weather was glorious and we are so pleased that Dylan was able to share it with us.
    Thanks again John & Tracey x x x

  204. Rach & Mike Says:

We had the beautiful Dylan as our wedding ‘van’ last month; he was definately the star of the day,he went down a treat! When we had our piccies took in him I would of quite liked to have kidnapped him! A huge thanks to Tracey and John, who are lovely, friendly and very helpful (plus they had to endure 3 screaming bridesmaids in the back of him, well one in particular, which I am more than sure you both know who that was Tracey and John!!) So again a big,big thankyou for making our big day even more special, you are stars!xxx

  205. J, Rachel, Oliver & Ella Hodson & Buster Dog Says:

Just back from a 5 day break in dougal with family including Buster the dog. Fantastic handover and information from enthusiastic owners John and Tracey, then began our very relaxing trip to the east coast near Whitby / Robin Hoods Bay. Had a great time with good weather, Dougal was well equiped and was a great temporary home for us all. Attracted lots of attention on the road and was really different to drive. We all enjoyed the experience greatly and will hopefully be taking Dougal out for another outing before too long!! Everyone should have a go at camping this way, it’s fantastically different and relaxing too! We had bike rack and awning too which we felt were both worthwhile additions.

  206. Lauren keith and Milly Says:

Just brought Dougal back , which made us sad as we loved the orange fella to bits, he is fun fantastic and fabulous all wrapped up in one. My daughter hired him for my birhtday for a few days and we were having soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much fun we extended it for a few days longer. Dougal is everything you can wish for in a campervan, and the holiday is what you as a family or couple and dougal make it, I would recomended liberty campetrs to anyone, miss you dougal see you again soon xxxxxx

  207. claire, nick and elliot Says:

Had a great time in Dougal. Every one should give it a go! In fact we enjoyed the experience so much we are now looking into buying a camper for ourselves.

  208. Lisa & Ben Cocker Says:

We had Dylan along to our wedding and I’ve got to say he probably outshone the bride! Ok, I can’t say that, but seriously, everyone was very impressed, and that’s before even taking into account how friendly Tracey and John are. You won’t meet more helpful, reliable and cheerful people, and right from the moment we considered a VW as a wedding car, we knew they were the way to go. If you’ve got this far thinking about hiring one of their other vans, or having them along to your special occasion as a chauffeur hire, then take it from us – you won’t go wrong with them. Thanks guys!

  209. Peter and Frances Says:

Have had a great week in Daisy with our 2 children aged 7 and 10. Made our way up to Northumberland staying at sites at Barnard Castle, Dunstan Hill and Bellingham all of which were friendly, clean and comfortable. Daisy was a star and attracted lots of admiration! She isn’t fast but gets there in the end. It’s very cosy for 4 so would recommend the awning too. All round a great week. Thanks to John and Tracey.

  210. Richard, Mandy and Catherine Says:

Just back from 2 days in Dougal (but wish it had been much longer) had a fantastic time! Dougal is lovely, has everything you need and just being in the van is a great adventure – plus everyone smiles and waves at you!

It was just so straightforward to book, collect and get off on holiday, can’t recommend it enough – thank you so much!

  211. John and hayley Says:

Have just returned from our first ever trip in a campervan! We were the first people to hire Daisy and spent a fantastic time touring the lakes. Daisy had everything we needed (except bedding of course) resulting in the freedom to take off wherever we wanted. Use the camping site book (glovebox) but if ur planning to head for the lakes try the fallbarrow site in bowness or the castlerigg hall at keswick. Both were absolutely fab and with great views. Daisy is definately a fun way to do a road trip and we would recommend liberty campers to everyone.

  212. Sarah Timmins Says:

I decided to book Dougal for my husbands surprise birthday present, after initially being disappointed that all the vans were all booked up for this date, i was overjoyed when John contacted me to say there had been a cancellation and i made the necessary arrangements for Craig to have the time off work.

John was more than help full with all the plans and as only a few weeks away from our trip, i caved in and told Craig of our adventures to come with Dougal. To say he was excited is a total understatement. Craig being totally obsessed with VW camper vans this was his,and i quote, ” the best f***ing present he has EVER had !!! ”

So a few weeks later we set off to Leeds all packed up with what we needed (not much just sleeping bags and our own essentials) Dougal was equipped with everything we needed and the ever so important kettle !!! The heater John provided was a god send as staying out doors in late Oct/Nov is indeed freezing.

We picked up Dougal and after John spending some time with us going over the controls and how to erect the roof, beds and table,we set off eagerly to our destination,Pendle Hill for some paranormal fun.

Once Craig had got used to the difference in driving Dougal from his own car (many laughs were had by us both at his attempts to get in third gear and reverse ,Craig’s problem not Dougal’s) we found the campsite, hooked up Dougal and settled down for the night getting to know him.

Everything was very easy to set up and the kettle was soon whistling away.

The bed was more comfortable and cosy than our own and we both had a fab nights sleep.

Craig particularly enjoyed cooking his bacon butties on the hob and had soon filled the fridge up with everything we needed.

So we set off on slightly hair raising journey to Pendle Hill, be warned the lanes are narrow,it was my turn to drive for the day and i soon picked up the knack of driving Dougal (much to Craig’s annoyance). Dougal got us round the lanes safely and i was pleased with myself for getting us through some very scary moments (i was more worried about Dougal than us).

On our return to the campsite we were flashed, waved at,and honked at by other drivers which added to the fun of our trip.

The rest of the weekend we spent alot of the time just sitting and taking in Dougals vibes at the campsite,as the weather was particularly bad we didn’t want to risk putting Dougal in any danger but spoke about how great it would be if we had our own Dougal … another reason i made the booking, to help us decide if we should get our own, and yes one day we will be getting our own VW,thanks to the help of John and Dougal convincing us,but until we win the lottery to afford one,we will be looking to book Dougal,Dylan or Daisy some time in the very near (warmer) future.

Thank you to John and Tracey for providing us with some fabtastic memories in Dougal.

    Sarah and Craig Timmins.

  213. David and Maura Says:

Just back from a very wet weekend in the Lakes – Dougal kept us nice and warm and dry and the heater came in handy because they now have electric hook ups at Wasdale Head. We camp a lot but it was fantastic to have a warm orange bus to come back to at night, not a wet miserable tent. We’ve been saving up for a van of our own, a dream would be a splitty but I think first we’ll have to make do with a T25. It was great to have Dougal for a few days though (and yes orange is the best colour). We too got plenty of waves. Unfortunately the Hardknott Pass was closed due to flooding so I didnt get chance to try him over that, but we went the long way round through Ulpha to Broughton (from Wasdale Head) and he did very well on that road. We’d like to say thanks for the great service and for keeping Dougal so clean and tidy. Loved the evolution-of-VW-bus knives and forks, plates and spoons etc, really cute! We’ll give Dougal a wave next time we see him driving through Otley.

  214. Louise and Martin Says:

We had Dougal for the day and had an absolutely brilliant time!
He was in immaculate condition, really comfortable.
We got lots of smiles and waves, which just added to the experience!
Would love to do this again, but for longer.
John and Tracey – are very professional and passionate about the vans, you feel as though you are in good hands.

  215. Mike and Karen Hayes Says:

We picked Dougal up (or rather John picked us up at Leeds coach station in Dougal) last Monday and, after good clear instructions of how everything worked, we set off for a 5 day break. Dougal behaved perfectly and we were soon talking to him like an old friend. We expected smiles and waves from young children, but when a group of teenaged lads waved and took our photo we knew we were really cool! John and Tracey keep him spick and span and kitted out with everything you might need. We had a brilliant time and would definitely do it again.

  216. Chris and Robyn Says:

Dougal took us on an adventure down to Cornwall in August and we instantly fell in love with him! He’s comfy and cosy and with enough room to sprawl out in with a cool drink from his fridge while you whip up a quick meal on his handy stove he’s a great way of seeing the country!

We were sad to see the back of him at the end of the week and take a lot of happy memories of this great holiday with us.

Coming from the North West of England, we found that Liberty were in a great location for us (just a 50 minute drive away) and convenient. Being able to leave our car in the good care of john and Tracey while we made for the West Country meant getting under way was easy and hassle free.

Thanks to John and Tracey for the great, friendly service! We look forward to seeing you (and Dougal) again sometime in the not too distant future for adventure number 2!!!

    Chris and Robyn

  217. Louise and Jonathan Says:

Had a fantastic time in Dougal we absolutely fell in love with him and didn’t want to give him back after having him for 10 days. He took us down to South Devon from Yorkshire with no problem at all, making everyone smile, wave, toot their horns and even one person blowing a kiss as we drove past!! Would recommend Liberty Campers with no hesitiation. Dougal is well equiped and a good choice of extras to add to your hire, thanks again to John and Tracey and a big thank you to Dougal!! P.s he has a lot of admirers who like to have their photo’s taken with him!

  218. Clare & Phil Says:

Dylan is a super star! We hired him for our wedding in August and he looks better in the pictures then we do! If you are thinking of a classic wedding car then Dylan is your number 1 option. We loved every minute we had with him and are very greatful to John and Tracey for making our day so relaxed and special.
    Many many thanks
    Clare and Phil x

  219. Roger & Jo Says:

John and Tracey have done a fab job with their veedubs. Their help was great from first contact to hand-back. We motored over to see the Tour de France and finished up in Dorset at Camp Bestival. It was a big adventure. Yeah, we strongly recommend hiring a camper from Liberty. Many many thanks

  220. Mark and Bernie Says:

We decided to contact Libertycampers to try out a week in a nice new old style vw camper. From google maps Libertycampers was the most convenient place to hire a camper due to the central location between the lake district and the yorkshire dales plus only about 4 and a half hours from stranraer.

John and Tracey were helpful from the first contact and all the arrangements were easily in place with no fuss. We picked up Dougal and set off within an hour of arriving at Otley. For the next seven days Dougal carried us coast to coast with no problems and with alot of smiles. The interior was really well setup and 2 small boys had a whale of a time sleeping in the elevating roof.

We would recommend bringing an awning or hiring one from John as it means you can leave alot of your bits and pieces at the campsite and head off into the sunset with a less cluttered camper. You also have to be alert for other vw campers so you can flash lights or even better use the airhorn on the dash – very nice.

Overall we would recommend liberty campers with no hesitation and say hello to Dougal.

    Mark and Bernie

  221. Helen & Phil Says:

We hired Dylan as our wedding car in June and he stole the show! We turned heads everywhere we went and totally fell in love. Our friends all agreed he was far more impressive than the usual wedding transport.

John and Tracey couldn’t have been more helpful and lovely. I would certainly recommend them, and their beautiful Dylan for your special day.

    Thanks very much for everything
    Helen

  222. Pam, Marc & Helena Says:

We hired Dougal for a week and took him on a camping holiday with our two and a half year olddaughter. She has fallen in love with Dougal – so much so we’ve had to buy her a campervan teeshirt. We had a fantastic time and the attention Dougal brings is great fun. The van was extremely comfy, very clean and reliable. When travelling I was able to sit in the back with my daughter in her car seat and she loved the fact that she had unrestricted views out of all the windows. She also loved sleeping in the top of the van and looking down on us each morning. We have recommended Liberty to all our friends and we hope to be seeing Dougal again soon.

  223. Pam and Trev Says:

We hired Dylan for our daughter’s wedding car. He was everything we expected and much, much more! The bride and bridesmaids never stopped smiling all the way to the church and he attracted attention all along the route, everyone smiling and waving.
Dylan made a big contribution to a fantastic day; John and Tracey were really helpful from day 1 and they helped to relieve anxiety around the planning of such events. They even risked the ‘high seas’ to get over to the Isle of Man for the wedding. The personal touches they added were wonderful and we would highly recommend them to all prospective brides.
    Thank you John and Tracey

We had a great Weekend in Dougal VW camper Van. The experience was great. Our friends camp every year in the Yorkshire Dales and it was fun to be with them. We had a great reception at the camp site. We felt special because the van is special.
My husband has had a camper van before but I have never stayed in one. I was a bit sceptic at first but after the weekend we are now looking to buy one.
We would hire one again from Liberty as the service was excellent.
    Thank you Tracey and John,

We hired Dougal for 4 nights as usually after a couple of nights camping we’re eager to get back to sleeping in our own bed. So it was a pleasant surprise to find the camper bed was snug and comfy, so much so it took a couple of nights to get used to my nice big bed at home again!
Dougal got us over hardknott pass with relative ease (a trip not recommended for the faint hearted) and we too got smiles, waves and flashes wherever we went!
Don’t forget to take your i -pod or cds as Dougal’s sound system is spot on.

  226. David Daly Says:

We came back from a break with Dougal from Liberty yesterday – the four of us had a fantastic time. We haven’t laughed so much in ages – everyone on the road loved the little orange fella, and we got waves and flashed headlights everywhere we went.
We are not typical campers so the fact the van had nearly everything we needed was a blessing.
Tracey and John are really friendly and ready to help, they are clearly nuts abouts vee – dubs and their passion started us off in the right frame of mind.
We will be back as soon as our smiles need topping up!
